Chapter 23: Guilty

(Lily's POV)

Me and Craig were working on a final art project together and we were almost done with the last touches. The project was to build something creative that can reflect with the city. We made a small building that was covered by colors which were swirled around the sculpture. We finished and we both gave each other a high five.

"Looks amazing Craig and Lilian." Our teacher said and we both smiled at our artwork.

The bell rings minutes later and both me and Craig pack our things and head out towards the cafeteria.

"You ready for graduation this Wednesday?" Craig asks me and I nod, finally done with high school and ready for my new life outside of it. Today is monday, tomorrow is the day where we practice our ceremony then the next day is the final day.

"Yeah, so ready to leave and push everything behind me." I say and Craig nods understandingly. I am done with everything that has happened for the past two semesters of my year. Christmas and New Years wasn't that bad but everything else.

Me and Craig continued talking about graduation as we walked out towards the blacktop and to the table to where our friends sat. I look up to see who was at the table and my eyes widened at the sight of Evan talking to Brock and Tyler. They seemed like they weren't having a good conversation. Craig notices that I stopped on my tracks because of Evan and so he approaches me.

"Let's go sit inside Lil, he hasn't seen us yet, let's go." I nod in agreement and we both turned around but. . .

"Lily!" Evan yells from behind and I curse myself for stopping. I hear footsteps behind me and someone grabs my arm and spins me around to face them, though the face I was turned to was Evan's.

"Lily, please. Give me this moment to explain everything okay? I don't like Karina at all, I like you and only you. . .no this isn't just like. . .it's-" He was cut off by Karina pulling him away from me. I watch as she looks at me disgustingly. I sigh as I was feeling myself break even more on the inside, soon the guys and Sofia came to my rescue.

"Karina, what the hell is your fucking problem?" Sofia says and Karina just rolls her eyes.

"Let me say something to. . . Lily." Karina says as she stares me down with her dark eyes.

"Evan belongs to me and has always belonged to me, if you can't handle the fact of me being happy for once, then go cry to your mommy and daddy that have made your life happy. You don't need Evan, nor do you deserve him." Once Karina finishes, I dropped my tray of food and ran inside the school.

I couldn't take it, this was too much for me. I just want to be with my mom, the place where she has been sent to. I ran into the girls bathroom and I was lucky that no one was in here. I went in one of the stalls and cried my heart out.

(Karina's POV)

I chuckled when I saw her run inside like the baby she is, but as soon as she left, Evan yanked his arm out of my grip which almost caused me to fall. I look up at him with confusion and he had anger washed over his whole face.

"What the hell is your problem Karina? Why do you always mess with Lily?!!" Evan yells at me and I see that he was serious. I felt someone push me to the ground and it was Sofia. I look at everyone around and I stand up quickly.

"Alright! I will tell you why! That bitch has a happier life than me! My mom doesn't really care about me, all she does is smoke! My dad is in jail and has never called me or my mom! Why do you think I mess up her days? Just so I can make myself happy." I finally spilled out and they all got angrier.

"You are such a bitch Karina, you don't know anything about Lily or what she has been through these past few months." Sofia tells me and I look at her. What can she be going through? Ain't her life full of happiness?

"Karina, Lily's mom was sent to the hospital on the first day of school and after she was sent, her dad came and took over the house but treated Lily badly. He abused her from time to time and she showed me, Brock and David the bruises. Soon, she finally got a chance with Evan and he has helped her throughout her toughest times, then there is you. . .you made her days worse and worse everyday, and on Saturday, her mom passed away, do you feel proud of yourself for making Lily suffer when she has been suffering at home too?" I was hit by her words, I never knew. . .I have this strange feeling in my stomach that is punching the shit out of me.

Guilt.

"I-I didn't know. . .I thought she lived a happy life ever since 6th grade. . .I know it's already too late. . ." I look down and I look back up at them. I turn to Evan who had an upset look on his face.

"Evan. . .You belong with Lily, she needs a man like you. . ." I say and the look on Evan's face brightens. I watch him run in the school to look for Lily with Tyler and Sofia. I look at the rest of the guys and just walked away.

(Evan's POV)

I ran through so many people and I didn't even bother saying excuse me. I have to look for Lily and fix everything but where can she be? I stop and turn around to face Sofia and Tyler.

"So where do you think Lily is hiding?" I ask Sofia and she looks towards the bathrooms.

"Can you search for her in there?" I say but as we were running towards the bathrooms. The bell rings and we only had a few minutes to reach our class. I look down at my feet and sigh.

"Sofia, tell Lily to meet me at the park tomorrow after graduation practice. Thanks." With that, I ran towards my last class.

I hope Lily can give me a second chance now that Karina is out of the picture. I will make her happy as long as she is with me.
