Chapter 20: Broken

(Lily's POV)

I slowly open my eyes and groan at the massive headache I had. I slowly rise up and noticed that I was still in my prom dress, but then I remembered why. . .I turn to look at my phone that was charging on my drawer next to me and picked it up to see the time. It was 5:30 in the morning and I see all the notifications I had.

5 Missed Calls from Sofia.

2 Missed Calls from Brock.

3 Missed Calls from Jonathan.

15 Missed Calls from Evan.

I sigh at the sight of his name, my heart soon skipped a beat and I felt my lips quiver. I unlock my phone and see that I also have unread text messages.

Sofia

Lily? Everything alright?

Lil? Why aren't you answering?

It's cool, I will call you tomorrow. Goodnight.

Brock

Lil? What happened?

Please answer my phone calls.

Jonathan

Yo Lilly!

What the fuck happened? Evan won't tell me anything. All he has been saying was 'I fucked up' repeatedly.

Sleep tight Lil.

My breath got shaky as I was about to read his messages.

Evan

Lily! Please answer my calls!

I am so sorry, please forgive me!

I can't be alright if you aren't, I need to know if you're okay. . .

Please Lily! I need your forgiveness, I will do anything to make you forgive me.

I had to stop reading, I couldn't take it anymore, I was crying and I can't control these tears. These tears that I have held for so long from the pain I have locked up. I was happy and that was the thing that held my tears but the seal has been broken. I look back at the messages and one caught my eye.

Evan

I am going to your house tomorrow and fix everything. Goodnight Lil.

Shit! He is coming today and I am still in my dress. . .No, I can't see him after what he has done. . .I can't. I gotta, I gotta set things straight but I won't forgive him. . .Maybe breaking up with him is a better idea.

I know it's crazy but I do remember when he was talking to Karina and she said something about a promise. I can't believe this, they have been keeping something from me all this time. I know Karina wouldn't have told me but Evan. . .He should've said something.

I quickly go to the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror. I was a mess, inside and out. I quickly wash out the ruined makeup and changed out of my dress to a pair of grey sweatpants and a black t-shirt. I soon heard knocking on the door as I finished putting my hair up in a bun. My heart was pounding. I took a deep breath and went towards the door.

I set my hand on the doorknob and slowly twisted it, pulling the door so it can open and there he was. He looked tired though, he had bags under his eyes and his eyes were irritated. I step outside and closed the door so my dad couldn't hear what was about to happen and Evan was coming closer to me.

"Lily. . .Look at you. . .You didn't sleep well too?" He says and I didn't reply. He sighs at my silence and gets closer but I raise my hand up making him stop.

"No. . Evan just don't get any closer." I could hear his breathing was out of control but he was trying his best to calm down. Though, he ignored what I said and touched my arm but I pushed his hand away.

"Lily. . .Please forgive me, Karina just grabbed me and started kissing me. . ." I cross my arm and bit my lip so a sob couldn't escape.

"Why Evan. . .Why did you do this?" I say and he looks at me with pain and sadness. He pulls at his hair and tries to think.

"Is something going on between you and Karina? The girl that has ruined my life from the start? The girl who has tried to make me feel horrible everyday? The girl. . .that tried to kill me. . ." He stayed quiet and I shake my head.

"Lily. . .I am deeply sorry, please, please, please forgive me." He tried grabbing my waist but I pushed him away. It's so hard to do this, it's hurting me even more.

"Do you know how hard this is for me?! I have liked you all my life ever since sixth grade until finally my dreams came true. I got the chance to date you, the past few months were amazing. . .until last night. . ." A tear escaped my eye and it was falling down my cheek. Evan reached towards my face and dried my tear away.

"Please don't cry Lily. . ." I shake my head and back away.

"Trust me, I should've been dried out from tears but I guess there is more left over from last night." His face looked like he witnessed a murder. I can tell that he is deeply hurt but I am broken.

"It's hard for me to calm down when a lot of bad things are happening to me at once. My mom is in the hospital, my dad abuses me, I have a bully who ruins everything. . .and now the guy I felt like I would last forever with was caught kissing the girl I hate the most. . .Tell me what the promise was!?" I raise my voice and he jumped at the sudden sound of me yelling.

"Lily. . .it was nothing-"

"Don't make this worse Evan, tell me. . .now." I was ready to break down and cry, I wanted to cry in his arms but I can't forgive him.

"Lily. . .The promise was that if I couldn't find someone by the beginning of Senior year of high school. . .I would go out with Karina. . ." That was it, the tears came flooding down my cheeks. Karina was behind all of it and I can't believe Evan didn't tell me.

"Lily, Please don't cry. . ." He grabbed me and pulled me into a hug. His warm body against mine was so soothing but my arms pushed him away from me. He stumbled a bit and looked at me.

"I think. . ." I can't take this.

"We need to see other people Evan. . ." As I say that, he grabs my arm and grips it tightly.

"No! Lilian Hernandez, I am not leaving your side. . .Please Lily don't do this to me. . Nobody can replace you!" I pulled my hand out of his grip and he fell to the ground on all fours.

"I know someone who can replace me. . .and it's the girl you kissed yesterday." I was cold, I turn around and walked towards my door. Evan stayed on the ground on all fours and I was inside of my house already. I locked the door just to make sure Evan doesn't try to break in. I soon heard a car turn on and drive off.

I entered my room that held all of my sorrows and speechless memories then I shut the door behind me. It's official. . .Me and Evan are no more.

I look at the time and saw it was 7:50. I need to go see my mom, I know she can cheer me up. As I was grabbing my things and fixed my messy bun, my phone started to ring. I looked at the caller ID and it was unknown. I picked up my phone and answered.

"Hello?"

"Is this Lilian Hernandez?"

"Yes, who is this?"

"Hi, I am Sally, the girl in the front desk of the hospital."

The hospital?

"I am terribly sorry Lilian but your mother. . ."

"Has passed away."
