(Lily's POV)
My aunt and my uncle have been going crazy about my graduation. They both were talking about plans for a party, debating if they would get me flower necklaces or candy ones, deciding what to wear, and asking me of they can get front row seats.
"You two need to calm down." I say, giggling a bit from how rushed they seemed.
"How can we calm down if our little niece is graduating high school!?" My aunt hugs me and I smile. As we part I stood up and went back into my room and sat on the edge of my bed. I look at the nightstand that's next to me and there stood two framed pictures of me and my mom. On the day I went to prom, the last day I saw her. I grab the image of me and her doing silly faces and I giggle at how funny we looked.
I set the frame down and when I looked at the second framed image, I started tearing up. I was kissing my mom on the cheek and she smiled so beautifully. I was lost in the picture that I didn't notice my uncle was in front of me holding a tissue. I look up at him with glossy eyes and he smiled warmly at me. I take the tissue and wipe away the stream of tears that were visible on my cheeks.
"Hey, she is most likely proud of how her daughter has turned out to be. . .she is smiling at you right now, she is crying tears of joy for how happy she is for you for making it through high school." I smile at the image and my uncle's words were stuck in my head.
"Thanks Kevin. . .I hope she is watching me this very moment at how excited I am to finally leave school and live on with my life but. . .a life that will have to be without her. . ." My lips quivered at the end and I dropped my head down. I felt arms wrap around me as I spill my pain out for my mother who will no longer be with me through this new adventure of mine. . .she won't see me in a wedding gown, she won't see me walk down the aisle, and she won't even see her grandkids.
"Listen Lil, don't be thinking otherwise, she will always be there no matter what, in your heart." I sigh at the thought but it's not the same. . .she isn't gonna see me graduate.
"In spirit she will cheer you on when you're on the stage recieving your diploma." Spirit. That's one way to put it. I smile as I think about how my mom would've hugged me once the graduation was over. She would've been telling me over and over about how proud she is to have raised a child like me. . .
"Let's go Lil, don't want you being late to graduation practice." I stand up as my aunt reminds me why I have woken up so early. I grab my bag and fix my braid then off I went towards my school, but halfway through the walk I heard a familiar voice.
