I do not understand Ranka. He forced me to wear one of cousin Haru's little outfits that somehow fit me...and that is saying a lot since I'm taller than Haru, and have a bigger size chest than Haru. I grabbed a thin zip up hoodie to cover myself a bit, but Ranka wouldn't allow me to wear leggings underneath my fluffy skirt that came down to mid-thigh instead of knee length.

...meh.

"Hurry up Maru! The market has a sale today, and I want to get there early to get the good stuff!"

I hurried to slip on my red Levi's sneakers, grabbing my black satchel-like backpack.

"I'm coming Haru..."

I looked back inside Haru's little abode, knowing no one was at home, since Ranka left early this morning to go to work. It left a indescribable silence, compared to the every day liveliness inside the household. With one last glance, I closed the door, leaving the silence.

Haru and I walk in sync, a odd...sullen air around us.

It stayed that way until Haru broke it.

"So...I'm thinking about getting some eggs and bread...some vegetables and beef as well....ok?"

I nod in agreement.

"...don't forget about the isaki." (Type of Japanese fish.)

She nods her head.

Silence once again.

"Maru...I know. You've been acting strange since this morning...and there's that other thing, right? I checked online...its next week...i-isn't it?"

"...yeah."

"So...I guess you'll be away from school for a bit?"

"...yeah..."

I knew Haru was going to find out eventually. She usually does.

...I wish it wasn't true though.

"Don't worry Haru. I'll be fine."

A small ding alerted the employees that a new customer arrived, after we entered through the sliding doors.

Even though it was nine a.m. in the morning, the supermarket was quite packed.

Haru and I dogged people as we hurried to grab our items.

"Here, Maru, you grab these things and I'll grab these, meet up at the flower aisle so that we can go pay together, okay?"

"Sure Haru."

She handed me a list of herbs, spices, and rice.

Maybe I'll do a little shopping of my own as well.

I grabbed a basket and scurried away into the sea of people.

I currently waited by a cart of fresh lilies, quite bored, if I do say so myself. I had everything on my list by me, and when Haru meant there was a sale, it truly was a sale. I don't believe my cart even reached twenty dollars.

"Where do you want me to put these?"

I move my head over to where the voice was, but I couldn't see what was happening since the bouquets of flowers were blocking my view.

"You could put them behind the lilies."

I could hear the cart head in my direction, and soon enough, I see the cart, filled beautifully of gazania flowers.

"Hey boss, isn't it going to be a bit difficult to sell them? I mean, it's not exactly the season for it, if you know what I mean-"

"I'll buy them all."

I walked up behind the man managing them while he and his boss were talking.

I needed those flowed.

The man turns around in shock.

"B-but ma'am, that would be quite a price since there are around fifty of these on this cart-"

"And I said I'll buy them all. Ring it up for me please."

His mouth still agape, he hesitantly carted away the flowers to wrap them up for me.

"Hey Maru! Sorry I was a bit slow, there were people everywhere trying to get exactly what I needed. I see you also got some flowers for them, eh?"

I smile.

"Yeah."

•••

Haru gushed about the great prices she received when we were shopping, and I couldn't help but chuckle a bit.

"Ah, shopping on a Sunday really is wonderful!"

I close my eyes, listening to our even pace, but eventually, one slows until they stopped. I open my eyes and turn to Haru, to see a bothered look at something in front of us. I turn around and dropped my bags, Haru following after. It was lucky that I was able to hold a grip on my box full of flowers.

"The words, shabby, rundown, or anything else related to that is forbidden once we enter their house! Do offend Haruhi In any way possible-"

"It's too late for that! Now get the hell away!"

"Uh, Haru, I'm gonna go and drop of these flowers, so...ja ne!"

I sprint away, hearing Haru's angered screams behind me.

Now, to rearrange these flowers...

•••

I tap my knuckles against the wooden door in front of me three times, the very large bouquet of flowers cradled in my arms.

"Come in."

The white walls around my gave me shivers, but the nice afternoon sun relaxed me a bit.

"Oh, hey kiddo! Haven't seen ya in years."

I studied his pale skin, and how he lost weight. I could see that his hair also lessened...and it pained my heart to see how tired he was...as if he was tired already before all this crap.

"It's only been 32 hours...Uncle Kuro."

Stage two lung cancer. We discovered it three days to late.

Too late to make it disappear.
