Chapter 5

Victoria's POV

It's been a few days since we heard about Sannan-san's injury, a few days since my outburst, and a few days since I ran into Chikage Kazama. Saito had kept his word about not telling anyone until Hijikata and Sannan came back but who knows when that would be, they've been gone for a little over a week now. I had heard they were supposed to return any time now but who knows. I just wanted them to hurry up and be back already so I could see Hijikata's beautiful face and smother Sannan-san with hugs. The sooner Sannan got back the sooner I could start the physio with him. Anyhow, I had been stuck in my room for the last few days since the encounter with Kazama, I only even was granted permission to leave my room to bath and to eat dinner. That's right, I ate breakfast and lunch in my room by myself, rather odd if you ask me, only allowing someone out of their room for dinner. Who was I to complain, at least Saito let me out at all? Yes, Saito was the one constantly guarding my room unless he was on patrol then it was Souji. This also meant that no matter how awkward it was Saito followed me to the bathroom, he stood outside the room of course but still...awkward. Someone had to ensure none of the other soldiers tried to bath while I was, sometimes Chizuru and I bathed together but it was kept secret from the Shinsengumi soldiers because remember, Chizuru is a 'boy' and I am a girl.

It was dinner time and I was sitting to Chizuru's left, on her right was Shinpachi then Heisuke who were fighting over each other's food, naturally. Oddly enough Kondou-san and Inoue-san had decided to join us for dinner which was rare, it must've been a special occasion. Wait~Oh, yeah, now I remember. Hijikata and Sannan were supposed to come back tonight. You'd think, 'Oh, come on aren't you supposed to know that already?' But it's not as easy as you think. The anime only featured key events and certain days making everything seem as though it went by faster than it really did. So some things that I think might happen the very next day because that's the next thing that happened in the anime might actually happen four days later or maybe a week later, it's hard to tell unless I remember the context in of when it happened.

"You brat! It's payback time!" Shinpachi yelled to Heisuke who continued to steal his food. "What are you doing?" Heisuke questioned as Shinpachi tried stealing some of Heisuke's food. "Cut the crap! You ate my food!" Shinpachi countered. Everyone seemed to ignore the little spat between the two captains but I couldn't help but feel overly amused by their ruse. Even Chizuru by now had gotten used to it, I found it funny how she simply continued to eat her food as if the two captains weren't trying to stab each other's eyes out with chopsticks beside her. Inoue seemed less tolerant of their bickering as he seemed to be getting annoyed. At some point we all just stared at Shinpachi and Heisuke as they argued, something about eating Heisuke's food to which Shinpachi countered that it had happened a long time ago, Heisuke argued that it had happened just this morning. I snickered at that. Inoue glanced at me seeing my slightly reddened cheeks and misinterpreting it as a flustered expression when in reality I was just trying to hold back my laughs. "Let it drop, you two! You're getting on Rose-kun and Yukimura-kun's nerves" He shouted to which both me and Chizuru sweatdropped and laughed awkwardly. 'Way to get us involved, Inoue-san' I thought sarcastically.

On the bright side, it did make them stop bickering. Just then the Shoji opened and Hijikata walked in followed by Sannan. 'Finally! They're back' They were still in their Shinsengumi haori's and Sannan's arm was tied in a sling. 'Who tied that sling? They've done it all wrong, shame on them. That must be causing Sannan so much discomfort' Whoever tied his sling tied it on his injured side which is a big 'No-No' not to mention there is absolutely no padding underneath the knot which is probably digging into the skin of his neck 'Ouch!'
"I'm back" Hijikata announced. I had to hold back the urge to say 'No shit' "Hey, Toshi" Kondou greeted as him and Sannan walked in and took their seats. Everyone was silent at first, no one wanted to make a comment about Sannan's injury but everyone was thinking about it. I was the only one with any balls around here, honestly. "Sannan-san?" I questioned abruptly. Everyone's gaze turned towards me in shock. They were probably wondering whether I was actually gonna say something about Sannan's arm. "Yes, what is it, Tori-chan?"
