Victoria's POV
I woke up, stretching my arms with a small yawn. I rubbed my eyes before remembering where I was. I was back at the Yagi house but this was not my room. The paperwork neatly piled on top of the small desk reminded me that this was Hijikata's room. A small blush made it across my face. 'I slept in his bed' I thought giddily but my excitement was only then replaced with a different emotion. Disbelief and an insane amount of butterflies in my stomach. I recalled the events of last night, what happened with Sannan and the elixir of life and the kiss with Hijikata. The kiss, oh that kiss. I can barely remember what his lips felt like but at the same time, I remember it being a wonderful feeling. A long sigh left my lips. I wished I could see his handsome face right now. Just as I thought that the door slid open and Hijikata walked in. A sound of surprise passed my lips "Oh" Whoever said 'Ask and you shall receive' They were right. I quickly shut my mouth to allow him to speak while at the same time attempting to appear presentable.
"Get up" Was all he commanded. I was a bit put off by his sudden coldness but I honestly couldn't expect him to be a downright lovesick fool after kissing me last night. I'm sure he remembered just as well as I did but he sure didn't act like it bothered him....which bothered me! I wondered if he honestly liked me or if he was messing with me, neither of them seemed likely for his persona but then again he did kiss me. I was pushing the sheets of the bed back when a thought occurred to me. "I slept in your room all night, where did you sleep?" His expression didn't change and he simply gave me a cold blank look. "It shouldn't concern you, anyway, I had other things to deal with" He said bluntly. I slightly frowned but tried to keep as much disappointment from appearing on my face at his dismissiveness towards me. I tried to smooth out my kimono which I had worn the night before, it had gotten a bit twisted from the events of sleeping as did my hair which I was able to comb through with my fingers as Hijikata escorted me somewhere. We were quick as to not be seen by soldiers who had no clue I had returned and more importantly Itou and his soldiers. I was brought into another room which I recognized as Chizuru's. She was sitting in her room waiting when we entered.
"I wanted you to explain to me what happened but Yukimura already told me everything" He said, arms folded impatiently. I tilted my head not understanding why he had brought me here if that had been the case. Seeing this he elaborated. "Tell me why you risked getting caught to come here?" I opened my mouth to speak but found no words. "And tell me why I have a soldier looking for a girl with the exact matching description as you who he said 'Tricked him into leaving his post at the gate'?" Well, there was no thinking needed to answer that one. "Because that's exactly what I did. In hindsight, you need less gullible guards" Hijikata growled lowly causing me to flinch back and struggle to finish answering his questions. "Uhm, I just knew I had to help. I honestly thought I had talked some sense into him but I guess I was wrong. Do you think it was stupid of me to come here? I mean recently I've been thinking of coming back" I told him. "I was glad Tori-San was there, I don't know what would've happened if-" "-Quiet" He scolded, shutting her up. "You know you can't be seen here. I'm having Saito and Harada-kun distract Itou-San while I bring you back to-" "-No!" This time it was my turn to interrupt. He gritted his teeth and said in a low tone. "Keep your voice down" "You know I was thinking maybe we should just kill him" My nonchalant suggestion made Chizuru gasp and Hijikata sigh, rubbing his temple. "No" I furrowed an eyebrow while huffing. "You say that now"
"Enough of this, we're wasting time. You have to go back now" Hijikata grumbled. I pouted like a child. "No, I don't want to go back yet, I haven't even-" "-I'm not arguing about this with you" He groaned. "Good then shut up" I stated firmly. I could feel Chizuru's gaze on me as I said those words. She knew I was in deep shit but I could care less. I had something to say, dammit. If Hijikata's glares could kill people...I'd be dead. "What did you just-" "Just listen to me for once, would it kill you?" I panted. Hijikata was silent but his hard glare remained all the same. "I know you haven't distinguished whether Sannan will be alright or not but I assure you that he will...but you will have to convince Itou that Sannan-San is dead" I explained. Hijikata sighed obviously burdened by this information. "Also...I'm tired of running from Itou-San. I refuse to hide from him any longer...Mostly because I don't like being a pretend Geisha anymore it's a lot of work and the pay's not great for the amount of hours I work" I ranted. "Oh and men are misogynistic pigs" I added for good measure. Hijikata rolled his eyes at my dramatic explanation. "So your plan is to do what? Ruin all the arrangements I made on your behalf? Screw the relations we're trying to make in order to benefit the Shinsengumi? Get yourself killed?" I pursed my lips in response to his harsh yet truthful words.
