Ice Age: The Beginning

Chapter Seven

As soon as Manny's eyelids closed, a pair of emerald green eyes flashed opened and looked around their surroundings. Deeming that it was quiet enough and that everyone was defiantly asleep, Diego got up from his spot on the ground and quietly made his way over towards where Manny, Sarabi and Roshan were sleeping. 

Making his way towards Manny and Roshan, Diego was reaching out for the baby but a noise echoed throughout the silent air. Causing Diego to retract his paw away and look around. Glaring slightly when he saw that the noise came from Sid, shaking his head Diego once again reached for Roshan, but an emotion flashed through his eyes as he stared down at Roshan, with thoughts swarming his mind like a hornets nest, as the one thing that he couldn't shake off his mind.

That one thing wasn't a thing at all, it was an animal. And that animal was a she, she was constantly on his mind ever since he met her. He didn't know what was coming over him but as he retracted his right paw and placed it gently on the ground, he turned his attention to the Saber that has been plaguing his whole mind, the reason for all of those thoughts to run through his head, saying why 'this was a bad idea'.

Shaking his head, he knew that he couldn't do this, not to Sarabi. Diego can see how much Sarabi cares about Roshan, that was no secret that she would willingly die for him and that scared Diego so much, because Diego actually felt something for once in in his life. He knew that if he took away Roshan than there would be a part of him that would be taken as well.

But then again, Diego knows that both Manny and Sarabi has doubts about him, that they don't believe who he says he is. But can he really blame them? Both Manny and Sarabi have sneaky suspicions about Diego, but there is nothing that they can do about it until after they get to Glacier Pace.

A rustling sound caused Diego to snap out of his thoughts and looked over towards Sid to see if it was him who made the noise, but it wasn't him who had made the noise which slightly confused Diego. As another rustling sound came, he turned his attention towards the sound and saw that the bush was moving, so he quietly made his way over towards the bush area keeping low to the ground.

As Diego continued to watch the bush move, he waited for the perfect opportunity before letting out a growl as he pounced on the intruder and was about to attack them, but what stopped Diego was for the fact was that once he saw who was underneath him he couldn't help but to internally scream, Zeke, a fellow saber who is apart of his pack.

"What the...?" Diego questioned confused and annoyed.

"Go ahead and slice me. It'll be the last thing you ever do." Zeke said hysterically.

"I'm working here, you waste of fur." Diego growled, glaring down at his pack member.

"Frustrated, Diego?" Diego heard, causing him to look over and saw another one of his pack members who's name was Oscar "Tracking down helpless infants too difficult for you?" Oscar teased, causing Diego to get off of Zeke.

"What are you two doing here?" Diego demanded looking at both of his pack members, mainly Oscar knowing that he would provide more information then Zeke would.

"Soto's getting tired of waiting." Oscar stated bluntly.

"Yeah, he said "Come back with the baby, or don't come back at all!" Hahaha" Zeke said but laughed at the end.

"Well, I have a message for Soto. Tell him I'm bringing the baby. And tell him I'm bringing... a mammoth." Diego said with a smirk on his face as he saw the look of shock on his pack members faces.

"A mammoth?" Zeke asked confused yet excited at the same time.

"Mammoths never travel alone." Oscar said as they both followed Diego up the hill.

"Well this one sort of does, and I'm leading him to Half Peak." Diego said, looking down at Manny.

"Look at all that meat. Let's get him!" Zeke exclaimed and was about to go an attack but Diego jumped in front of Zeke and prevented him from getting any further.

"Not yet. We'll need the whole pack to bring this mammoth down. Get everyone ready..." Diego was about to say more but was cut off once they heard the baby starting crying.

Hearing the baby cry, Diego couldn't help but to freeze up in his spot knowing that whoever is going to wake up is going to see him and his pack members and then his cover would be blown.

Sarabi hearing Roshan crying, groggily opened her eyes and got up from her spot. She then proceeded to walk closer towards Manny and Roshan, but what she didn't realise was that she walked straight into the view of the three male Sabers who were watching Roshan cry. 

The two Sabers, who didn't know her, looked at her in confusion and shocked. They hardly ever see a female Saber anymore, walked out from the other side of the mammoth and watch as she gently bend down and took the baby out of the mammoths trunk with her mouth, but not before they saw the female Saber rub her paw along Manny's trunk. 

The three male Sabers watched with curiosity, as Sarabi laid down on her belly and placed Roshan between her paws gently before she started to lick his face, not caring for the fact that there's three male Sabers watching her with shock and awe. Never in their lives, have they seen a female Saber take so much care with a baby before. 

Shock, that's the only thing that can describe how much the three Sabers were feeling. Shocked because of how fast Sarabi managed to calm down the baby, only by just doing what? Licking and purring at Roshan until he finally calmed down and falling back to sleep. They just couldn't believe what just happened.

As Diego watched the scene unfold,he couldn't help but feel mixed emotions about Sarabi, that seemed to cloud his mind on a continuous loop. He knew that the scene that just happened in front of him, will never leave his mind, not now and certainly not ever. Not that he minded of course. Diego couldn't help but to think, that instead of Roshan, there was a cub in his spot, getting nuzzled and calmed down and that cub looked like a miniature version of himself. Shaking his head because of the thought of Sarabi bearing his cubs, really made him start to think whether he liked Sarabi or not.

"Wow, that was...... something." Oscar finally said after a few more minutes, of waiting until Sarabi fell asleep.

"Yeah." Diego said breathlessly. 

"You know, even though she's probably travelling with the mammoth, she really would make a great mother." Diego could just hear the smirk in Oscar's voice, which cause Diego to grit his teeth.

"Yeah! She's like the same as the other female Saber's but you know different!!" Zeke exclaimed, still looking at Sarabi.

"She's nothing like any of the other female Sabers's. She's unique and different from the others, it just makes her special." Diego said making Zeke and Oscar to look at each other, knowing that Diego is crushing on the female Saber.

"Right, we'd better go and tell Soto the news...." Oscar trailed off, causing Diego to look at him and nods his head.

Both Oscar and Zeke took one last look at the female Saber and the Mammoth one more time before both of them left Diego in his thoughts.

Diego let out a sigh, glad that they were gone and walked over towards his spot where he was laying last and laid down putting his head on his front paws. Looking over towards Sarabi one last time, Diego smiled to himself, thinking how lucky he was. 

Closing his eyes, Diego let darkness cover him like a blanket, dreaming of Sarabi and how she would be if she bore his cubs.

It's then and there, that even though Diego doesn't realise it, he's crushing on Sarabi and he might just be falling for her hard.
