Cannibals

Chapter 2

Panic began to find its way to my to my heart. The entire school was surrounded by those cannibals! How was I supposed to get home to my family?

"There's gotta be a way out. We can't survive here that long." The panic grew stronger as I spoke.

"We can for a few days. At least long enough to figure out a plan," the guy standing beside Marissa said. "There's food in the cafeteria. All we need is a master key to get in."

He had a point. And I had one of those very keys. It could be used to open any door in the entire school. But it was in my backpack inside Mrs. Requizo's room and I did not want to go back in there. It didn't matter though. I knew where I could find extras.

"I can get us one of those keys. I have one myself but it's in a room full of those cannibals. I know where some extras are though." I looked at the three friends who followed me. "We gotta go back to the chorus room," I told them.

"I'm not going anywhere," Kayla said shakily.

"Ok. Seth stay here with Kayla. Makenzie you can stay too." I knew Mackenzie was probably just as scared as Kayla. I didn't bother looking at Dominic so I turned back to Niana, Marissa, and their friend. "You guys willing to come with me?" The three of them nodded. "Alright but you guys need weapons."

I looked at Seth. I'd rather he stayed armed so he could protect Kayla and Mackenzie so instead I took the scissors from them and handed them to Marissa and Niana. Their friend, it seemed, already had thought of that and was carrying a metal base ball bat already covered in dried up blood. I lead my sisters and their friend out the door. I knew Dominic would follow as well. His pride would get the better of him and he wouldn't want to look like a coward. I took a glance behind me and sure enough, my brother had decided to join us.

"You need a weapon if you're coming with us Dominic."

He just shrugged his shoulders and continued to follow. I was surprised he hadn't tried leading the way himself. Probably because he wasn't 100% sure where exactly the chorus room was. We got there with no sign of the cannibals. I grabbed the ring of keys and searched for the master key. Not every teacher had a master key but I knew a few of the one's who did. Maybe I could get more than one. Just in case we really needed it.

"Let's go to the drama room too you guys." I suggested. "There's another one there. We could also probably grab the walkie talkies from there."

"Good idea," Marissa said with a nod. "Do you know where any other master keys are?"

"Well yeah. I know where two more are, but we can't get to them. The room is filled with too many of the cannibals."

We all froze at the sound of the double doors to the chorus room as they slammed open. Five cannibals rushed in and stopped as they looked around. August was among them. They all caught sight of us and screeched simultaneously. The sound was deafening. Marissa's friend was the first to act and took a swing at one of the cannibals' head.

She fell to the ground. Immediately after, the rest of the flesh eaters charged at us. I stabbed August through the eye but it didn't slow him down. He tackled me to the ground and try as I might, the stupid knife wouldn't come back out. Then as I closed my eyes and waited for the end, there was a snap and August's body went limp.

I opened one eye to see what happened. Marissa's friend was standing over us and reaching out his hand to help me up. I took his hand after he pushed August's body off me and when I stood up I finally took a good look at the guy. He was definitely really cute. He had deep, brown eyes, tan skin and long, wavey, brown hair.

"Thanks for saving me uhhhh," I didn't remember ever hearing his name.

"Alexander," he said shaking my hand. "But everyone calls me Alex." I realized I was holding on to his hand really tight and instantly my face turned red.
