I hadn't been keeping track on just how many spears I made and was currently working on another when Kayla tapped me on the shoulder. I looked up at her from my half dazed, half determined state.

"I think that's enough Arianna," she said with a smile on her face.

I could also see the concern building up just behind that smile. I looked down at the pile of spears sitting on floor next to me. There had to be at least two dozen in that pile.

I looked back at her and said, "sorry. I've been a little distracted. But hey, if we find other survivors then they'll have weapons too."

I went back to finishing my spear. When I finished I grabbed for another piece of wood. The spears were easy to make. The classroom was full of different materials we could use but mostly we had wood. And I didn't want to take too long making weapons so our primary goal was to focus on making spears.

I used the saw to cut the wood into as many thin poles as I could. Then I used the sander to round out the pieces of wood. After, I used a much smaller saw to cut a notch at one end and divided them among my group. For the arrow head, I grabbed the marble tiles sitting at one end of the classroom and cut them till they were sharp and could fit inside the notch of the wood. We had hot glue guns and super glue but to be extra careful I grabbed the giant flag with the purple hornet on it, our school mascot, from the wall and cut it into strips to tie around the end of the spear and arrowhead. It was Mackenzie who spoke next.

"Arianna all four of us have each made at least ten. You can stop now. There's no need to overexert yourself. Lets go help in the library. You still have to tell us our groups of two anyway."

With a deep sigh I dropped the spear I was working on. I guess she had a point. Truth be told I really didn't want to do anything but work on weapons though. To completely avoid everything and escape the terror that had become my world. My group all walked to the door and waited for me to join them. The uniformed student put his stack of spears down and opened the door for the rest of us.

Then out of nowhere a cannibal charged him and tackled him to the ground. I ran up to them, spear in hand. The cannibal had taken a chunk of the R.O.T.C student's face. I stabbed the spear through the cannibal's neck. When it fell to the ground I pushed it to the side and kneeled down next to the already turning boy. He was shaking and trying hard to hold back his frightened tears.

He looked at me with his dark brown eyes. He knew what I had to do. He put his dark hand up and I took it. I looked at the metal name tag pinned to his blue coat. His last name was Barns. I shushed him as he began to sob.

"Don't think about it," I said picking up one of my spears. "Look up at the ceiling. Think about your happiest memory."

I tightened my grip on the spear and readied myself. I gave him a second to think. Tears streamed nonstop down the sides of Barns' face but he began to look somewhat at peace. His grip tightened on my hand and I knew he was ready. With a tear in my eye I used as much force as I could with my left hand to make his death as quick as possible. Instantly his body stopped it's shaking. I took the spear from Barns' head and then closed his eyes.

I let go if his hand and stood up. Mackenzie and Kayla were staring in horror at what just happened. Something about the way they looked at me though told me they were now beginning to fear me. It was the last thing I wanted. But I couldn't blame them. Hell. I was beginning to fear myself as well.

But it needed to be done. And I made it swift. I grabbed as many spears as I could and walked out of the classroom. I heard Kayla and Mackenzie follow but they kept their distance. I lead them to the cafeteria and opened one of the lunch line doors. We put all the spears down on the ground inside except one each. Then I grabbed one for everyone in Alex's group.
