Chapter 8

~~~ Alex's P.O.V.~~~

I sat up feeling groggy. I don't know how long I'd been asleep but it didn't feel long. I looked around and saw a chair next to my bed. There were a couple bottles of water sitting on it and I immediately took one and chugged it down. I never thought I could feel so damn thirsty before. Halfway through the second bottle a knock came at the door. I didn't really want to get up to answer the knock because my body was sore.

"Yo," is all I said to answer the knock. Without a second to spare Arianna rushed in and locked the door behind her. "What's wrong?" She didn't answer. Instead she grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the restroom. Then she pushed me in and was about to lock me in but I put my foot against the door stopping it from closing. "What's going on?"

"I need you to hide in here and stay quiet," she answered.

Then a knock came at the door.

"Hello? Is there anyone here," came a deep voice.

Someone knocked again.

"Who is that," I whispered. Arianna looked at me with horrified eyes. "What happened?"

The knocks grew louder.

"Alright on three," the voice said quieter.

"Come on," I said pulling Arianna in with me.

I turned the light off in the restroom and left the door open a crack just to throw them off. Then someone fired a gun. Arianna gasped but put her hand over her mouth to keep from screaming.

"The room is empty. Looks like there really isn't anyone else in the school after all."

It was the same voice as earlier.

"Yeah and that means you killed that kid for no reason," came a woman's voice.

I looked at Arianna. She was shaking pretty bad. But she didn't look back at me. Who exactly did they kill?

"Oh well," the man said. I didn't like this mysterious guy. "The Captain's orders were clear. And who cares anyways. It was just..."

"The Captain said to bring back as many survivors as possible," the woman interrupted.

"Oh did I say the Captain's orders? I meant what I wanted the Captain to order."

"You can't just do that. Just wait till he hears about this."

There was a bang on the wall so I looked through the cracked door. They were both military. The man was tall and incredibly built. He had crazy scares running all over face and bald head. He had slammed the woman, who I couldn't see well, to the wall and was choking her. I wanted to help her but I knew I'd probably get shot and then end up getting Arianna killed as well.

"You're not going to say anything to the Captain or I will kill you myself," he threatened. "Do you understand?"

There was a pause, then she answered softly, "yes."

"Good. Now let's get out of here."

They both walked out and the room grew quiet. We waited for a long time to leave the restroom. We wanted to make sure they were gone. Then we heard a knock on the door again. I looked through the crack of the door to see Seth. I relaxed. Then I walked out.
