One week, that's all that's left until I get my companion. Or I guess more precisely, until my companion chooses me. If I'm being honest, I'm overjoyed to find out, but I'm also terrified. It's not uncommon for a person to have the same spirit animal as their parent. Even if that doesn't necessarily decide what it is going to be.
You see my mother, her spirit animal is a fox. Instead of trying to use her skills of deceit and finding her way around things for a job like a lawyer, she decided to move on to petty theft, burglary, and personal larceny. Her sentence is 12 years, and I haven't visited since she went in, it's not like she had ever done anything to show how much she loved me. That was five years ago, and I don't plan on visiting the rest of the time.
As for my dad, well I never knew him. All I know is that his spirit animal is a rat, the most ignoble of all spirit animals. I've never seen a picture of him and I don't know what his name is.
Ever since my mother went into prison I've been living with my grandparents. They are my mother's parents, but it's hard to see where she got her genes. My grandparents are hard working and successful, even if they are now retired. But you can kind of tell from their spirit animals that they are rather refined and noble.
My grandparents were born before all of the actual spirit animal craze started. My grandfather though, he was one of the first people to be tested. It was a few years later before he received his companion though. Because Scientists didn't know they could be partnered with humans with such a bond, a bond that you can only know what it feels like to have a companion. Everyone says, there is no explanation you just have to wait until your companion chooses you.
Companions aren't completely wild, but they are certainly not domestic either. All spirit animals are juvenile and bond while still young. The list goes as:
The Rat
The Skunk
The Hyena
The Weasel
The Fox
The Snake
The Mouse
The Chipmunk
The Porcupine
The Bat
The Deer
The Otter
The Wolf
The Leopard
The Grizzly Bear
The Elk
The Buffalo
The Lion
The EagleThis is the order of the spirit animals from the most ignoble to the noblest. Now for animals such as The Grizzly bear and The Elk, those are specific and there are no separate species. But for a spirit animal such as The Eagle, there is the Bald Eagle or the Golden Eagle or any other sub-species of Eagle. No one knows why only these specific animals started bonding with humans.
My grandparents weren't exactly the same, my grandmother only recently took the test, because she didn't think that it was something she needed to know. I was actually the one who convinced her to take it.
My grandfather is a very hard worker, he served in our army for 15 years. Having a companion like The Grizzly Bear, kept him safe while he was fighting. The Grizzly Bear is the fiercest and strongest of all the spirit animals. It is an amazing match for my Papa.
My grandmother, though she is not the greatest of fighters, also has a very noble animal. Her companion is The Elk. This too is such an appropriate match, for The Elk is the wisest and most understanding of all the spirit animals and she has helped me through my life more than any other person alive.
Now the only question is am I as noble as my amazing grandparents, or am I going to be as ignoble as the ones who bred me?
Dear God, I hope it's the former.
