When I woke up again it was dark, well I mean, the flood lights weren't as bright, making it seem like it was dark. I looked at the clock next to my bed to see it was a little past midnight. Wow, whatever happened must have really taken a toll on me. Vaguely I could remember Asher, and him holding me, and my grandma talking to him.
A lump under my covers moved slightly before Camilla poked her nose out. I pushed the cover the rest of the way off her head and she looked up at me grumpily. Guess I woke her from her beauty rest. She quickly got over it though and fell back asleep, I smiled and covered her head back up before standing.
'Emilia!' Addie yelled at me. Even though I knew it wouldn't help, my hands moved up to cover my ears from the unexpected noise.
'Yeah, yeah. I can hear you. I just- I don't remember what happened.' My stomach growled loudly then, and I realized I hadn't eaten since I ran home and gorged my feelings with ice cream. Sighing, defeated I stood up, wrapped my favorite fluffy blanket around my shoulders and went downstairs.
'Why don't you get some food, then we'll talk about what happened.' I nodded my head, knowing she couldn't see me, but she knew I responded. The living room was in the path to the kitchen, so when I walked in there, I was surprised to see Asher sleeping on the couch. He had a blanket over him and was snoring quietly. Kain was sitting on the arm of the couch with his head tucked under his wing. I can't believe they stayed, why were they still here? Not wanting to wake them up, I stalked through as quietly as I could.
Our kitchen was stocked with just about anything you could want. I opened the fridge and saw a dinner box of chicken and dumplings with a side of green beans. It wasn't grandma's homemade food, but it would have to do. I was just beginning to get my food out of the microwave when someone scared me from behind.
"Emelia, what are you doing up? You should be sleeping." Asher's voice was husky from just waking up, and was standing at the end of the counter, though he might as well not be. He looked like he was about pass out again.
"I just woke up, and it's going to take me awhile to fall back asleep. Also, I haven't eaten since early yesterday afternoon, I figured I would eat something then try to sleep again." He nodded then turned around, waving for me to follow.
What harm can be done, so I followed him into my own living room, and placed my food on the coffee table so I could sit down. Once comfortable, with my legs crossed and my blanket situated correctly, I picked my food up again.
I was enjoying my food silently before Asher took my fork and stole a dumpling. Reaching for the utensil, I stole it back and whacked Asher on the arm with my free hand. "Don't you ever touch my food." I warned with dead seriousness. "That is your first and only warning."
Asher's eyes widened before leaning back in the seat, while still looking at me. "Your grandma talked to me when I brought you in," he started. "She said you've been having panic attacks since you were young. Are they always like that?"
"Is that what happened, did I have another panic attack?"
He looked at me a little confused, "You mean you don't remember?" I shook my head. "I don't know how to explain it, I've never been so scared for someone in my life. I didn't know what was happening. I didn't know what to do. We walked out of the school and I guess something was leaked about you going there. There were reporters everywhere, and you froze as soon as you walked out. What was the old phrase, 'A deer caught in the headlights'? Well that's how I would describe it. Eventually I could make it back to you and I pulled you out, and we ran for the elevators, I tried to keep them out as we went down. When we were in Lower Louisville I had to carry you to the car, during the ride, and into the house. Is it always that bad?
