Jiame's POV
_______
I was by a pond not too far from the venue. I knew that I'd probably be a little late to our performance. And oddly, I was okay with that. I just hoped that Vic hadn't started worrying. I just had to be by myself and let my head clear.
It wasn't that simple coming out. I'd been kicked out of places, rejected by some family, some friends. And now Evie? The fertile slut that Vic had hooked up with? Way to sound fucking catty, Jaime. She didn't deserve my respect, my time, my energy. It was like being rejected by my old church.
'Jaime, you are not welcome here.' Father Fernando told me softly as all eyes of the congregation shot daggers at me. 'You participate in the Devil's deeds.'
'What? I'm in love. The Lord should know and understand this.' I didn't even bother lowering my voice. Mis Padres had gone ahead and didn't even stand up for me.
'You do not know love. That is lust.'
I violently shook the memory from my thoughts. It was the reason I hadn't been an active Christian. Yes, I believed in the Lord, and all, but there's just some things I can't believe in. I glanced at the screen of my phone to see the time. Hm, three minutes to show. I stood slowly and dusted off my pants. I hadn't changed since I'd awoke early this morning to calm River. Whatever, no one would notice. I started walking back to the stage. It was quiet, not too many people milling about. The closer I got too the stage, the louder everything seemed to get; my breathing, the crowd, the sound of stalling. Wait..stalling? Was I that late? I picked up my pace and hurried and slung my bass around my neck. I got onstage to the lights almost blinding me.
"Hey, nice of you to show, Jaime." Tony said to me, relief, shown apparent on his face. I went to my own mic and riser.
"Yeah, it is. So sorry to keep you all waiting." I apologized to the crowd. A multitude of 'its okay!'s came back at me. "Uh, Tone, where's Vic?"
"I thought you knew." Tony said to me from Vic's mic. I knew he was uncomfortable. Dammit, Vic. Why did he go looking for me? Now we were missing our singer.
"Fuuuuck." I groaned. We had to start eventually. "Whatever. He'll show. Until then, this song's A Match Into Water." We all started playing and I began singing the words, the crowd signing along to each and every word. "...We will bring the tidal wave."
"We will bring the tidal wave!" Vic screamed into his mic as he came onstage. The fans screamed even louder. We all continued the song, as if that's how we'd always played it. I hadn't minded singing, it was just, that was Vic's job, not mine. But I couldn't help but wonder why he'd bothered going after me. He knew me. I left like that when I really needed to be alone, and wouldn't our tour manager be responsible for finding me anyway? I decided not to dwell on it and continue our set.
"That was a good cover, guys." Mike said giving us each a hard, pat on the shoulder. I chuckled a little. Vic flashed his brother a small grin and started pulling me away.
"Hey, babe, is something wrong?" I asked him. He pulled me off to the side away from everyone else and hit me. "Ow, why'd-"
"Do you have any idea how worried I was? I thought something terrible had happened to you! Where did you even go?" Vic screeched. I smiled to myself. His face was all red with anger, and he couldn't be anymore adorable.
"I went to go by that small pond over there."
"Why? Did I do something wrong?"
"No, you did nothing wrong."
"Then who did?"
"This isn't the time nor place to discuss this."
"Jaime Alberto Preciado, of you don't tell me this fucking instant-"
"You can threaten me all you want. Not now."
"Fine." He huffed. He crossed his arms over his chest. "I'm still mad with you."
"Okay." I kissed his cheek. "If you say so." He hesitated, but hugged me anyway.
"Don't you dare ever do that again, okay?" He said softly. I reached out a hand to run my fingers though his hair.
"Never. I promise."
