I catch Ana as she collapses.

I gently brush strands of her hair out of her face.

"Is she okay?" Greyson asks.

"Yeah." Ashley says. "Just a soul I collected from a criminal."

"And criminal souls kill demons?" Allie asks.

"No. Criminal souls are actually really good for a demon's diet. They feed the being but they also act as sedatives. Which is why when demons have to eat they resort to criminal souls last, to avoid being knocked out." Jake says.

"Thanks smarty pants." Ashley says.

Jake and Ashley make faces at each other.

"Stop it. Both of you." I say. "We need to go."

"Fine." Ashley says.

"You know where to go first?" I ask.

"Yeah. We need to make a stop in London. When we're done there, we need to go meet Hunter." Ashley says.

"We have to meet Hunter?" Jake deadpans.

"Yeah." I say, standing with Ana in my arms. "You know she can't complete the mission in London because of her secret."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Jake says.

"You do know, by monitoring me, I'm monitoring you as well. By the looks of it, you're not doing very well." Greyson says. Jake glares at him.

"Come on and shut up." I say, walking out if the estate.

I sit in the carriage with Ana, still unconscious, in my arms. Celeste and Allie sit across from me. Ashley is driving the carriage and the reapers opted to ride outside with her.

(By opted, I mean Ashley threatened them.)

I brush strands of Ana's raven black hair from her delicate features.

"You love her, don't you?" Celeste asks.

I look up at her for a minute, silence between the three of us. I sigh and look back to Ana.

"Yes." I murmur, caressing Ana's pale cheek.

"When did you realize it?" Allie asks.

"I've always known. Ever since she found me in the street, after my mother booted me from my house. We've been best friends ever since. But I had to leave her. My father called me up here, and I had to go. I left her all alone, in that cold, dark, evil place." I explain quietly.

"You didn't like living in hell?" Celeste asks.

"I hated it. So did Ana. I think that was the only reason she let Ashley boot her up to the surface. She was crushed when I left." I say. "I broke our promise."

"You made the oath, didn't you?" Allie asks, astonished. I nod.

"What oath?" Celeste asks.

"The oath. It's like a contract for demons. They protect each other, from any thing or being. They would pick them over their own blood. Right?" Allie says.

"Yeah... How did you know that?" I ask.

"I ordered Claude to tell me about demon culture." Allie shrugs.

"So I take it neither Sebastian nor Claude know about the oath?" Celeste says. I shake my head.

"No." I say.

"They're going to be so mad." Allie says.

"I know." I agree. I feel movement and look down. I'm met with bright red eyes.
