You had only ever cried a handful of times in your life. The first, which might not necessarily be considered, being delivered from the womb. The second was when the true nature of your mother's death was revealed. The third took place on a very lonely night, during which the years of not crying seemed to be the unequivocal cause of your outburst. The fourth was very simply when you had been shot in the stomach and your, usually high, pain tolerance seemed weaker than usual. Never once did you expect that you would cry again but this time holding a bleeding out Bucky in your arms."Come on, Buck, stay with me." you panted through ragged breathes. You and Bucky were an assassinating dream team known for leaving missions with barely a scratch but a yearning feeling inside of you gave way to the possibility that Bucky would leave with more than a scratch today. You dragged him to shelter behind a white van so you could view any people heading towards you whilst avoiding bullets.
Your hands trembled as you put pressure on his two bullet wounds at the side of his stomach. "Easy, doll, that hurts a little." You would normally be willing to joke with him in a situation like this considering he always made it out but this time it was bad. The two wounds were so close that they ripped the skin between them, creating a large elongated wound that was releasing blood quickly. You knew Bucky was beginning to feel drowsy but the backup you had called for still hadn't arrived.
You were distracted from your thoughts as Bucky placed a hand over your trembling one and the other at the back of your head to pull it towards him and plant a kiss on your forehead. "Don't Bucky, don't." you mumble, knowing what he was going to say.
"I think you should go, baby." You shook your head furiously, refusing to accept what he was implying. "Would you rather carry my dead body from this building or have me leave with the paramedics?"
"Don't say that." you snapped and Bucky sighed, running his hand through your hair. "I love you." he said but you could hear the pain in his voice although he tried to restrain it to calm you. Although you still applied pressure, the blood flow was too heavy to contain by yourself. "C'mere," he spoke, gesturing for you to move closer. He kissed you and it felt like it was over too soon. You both remained at the close proximity as Bucky whispered "Don't be upset after this. Just move on quick and be happy. But don't forget me or I'll have to force myself back from the dead."
The tears fell from your eyes and you almost laughed at the rare occasion. "Don't-"
"Shh. Hey, listen to me. I love you so much. I'll never love anyone the way I love you and don't forget that. Hmm, doll?" You just nod in response as words are almost too hard to manage. The moment of silence is interrupted by Bucky's soft laugh. "What?"
"No it's just- it doesn't hurt anymore." You have to restrain more tears from falling but it doesn't seem to work too well as Bucky wipes the stray tears from your eyes.
"Don't go, Bucky, please." You kept pleading but in the end, he did.
