Bucky had never been one to wear his wedding ring. You never wanted to be 'pushy' and pester him about it so you always let the matter be. You trusted him enough to know that it couldn't be anything bad. However, when, on the morning of your wedding anniversary, you saw Bucky pick up your wedding ring before setting it back down on his bedside table and leaving the room, a bad feeling arose within you.You sat on the edge of the bed, playing with the ring in your palm whilst you thought in the silence. A knock on the door interrupted your thoughts and you scrambled to put the ring back. Bucky entered the room and his expression fell when he saw you with his ring in hand.
"I can-I'm..." Bucky stumbled over his words. "What is it, Buck?"
"I can't wear it." You look at him confused whilst waiting for his response. He opens his mouth several times unable to form a coherent response before he places his hand in yours. His left hand.
"I-I don't like wearing it on this thing. It isn't a part of me and you are. So I don't want this ring, that symbolises you, to be on this heap of metal, that symbolises death and HYDRA and the epitome of things bad." Bucky's voice cracks slightly and his eyes become glossy and red.
"C'mere." You motion for him to hug you and the both of you stay like that for a couple of seconds before you pull away and take his right hand. You slide the ring onto the ring finger of his right hand and he looks at you confused. "But-"
"Listen to me, I don't care if it's not on the hand every other married couple has it on. I mean, we're not really like every other married couple," you joke making Bucky laugh. "It doesn't matter to me that you don't wear it on your left hand, Buck. In fact..."
You take the ring from your left hand and slide it onto the ring finger of your right. "Now it's not on mine either."
Bucky looks at you in amazement before pulling you in for a kiss. When you break away he pants an out of breathe "I love you."
"I love you too."
