Tris POV

The next day I get up, having a lot on my mind. I made up my mind to talk to him. Hopefully he will be at breakfast.

I get ready and head down. Sure enough, he is sitting at his old table. Serious as ever.

I walk over. "Hi, can I talk to you?"

He looks up. "About what."

It doesn't even sound like a question. Too commanding. Was this guy a commander, of leader of some sort?

"Just want to get to know you..." I say, "I don't know if you already heard but I'm Tris."

"Okay." He says gruffly.

"Look I want to be friends." I say

"Well I'm not sure what I want to be." He gets up.

Okay sure I didn't need him to tell me his name, but that was a bit rude.

"You aren't the only one who is depressed because you can't remember." I say angry.

"And what do you think you know? Nothing." He scoffs.

"It sucks. Not remembering. Can't remember what your life was like, who your parents and siblings were, who you loved if you did. All your memorable memories are gone and your past has literally faded. Having this hole in your brain and all over your body but there's nothing anyone can do about it. It's not like you will magically run into someone and remember." I say loudly. Good thing nobody's here yet, it's early in the morning.

"You do not need to tell me anything I'm not already aware of." He glares.

But I know I hit a soft spot.

"As much as I don't want to either, I have to." I say, "Move on."

He says nothing.

"They say the old Dauntless was brave, protective. We trained hard everyday to protect the city. We were brave... Selfless."

"Were clearly not anymore." He says in a low tone. "Everyone is almost never sober and doesn't even honor or have pride in their home."

"Okay fine, I tried talking to you, but you are clearly buried deep in a hole of your unexisting past." I say, "I'm inviting you to come to the training room on Friday from one to six in the afternoon."

"Why should I?" He turns. "It's reserved then."

"Come, only if you take pride in your home." I say, then I head back to my room

LINEBREAK

As rough as the conversation went, I still have a good feeling in Tobias. I sure hope he will come.

The day passes. And on Thursday I go to the infirmary. There was a pain in my gut. Must have been all the physical work.

A nurse comes by, "Tris, you can't push this hard. It is not wise especially since the fetus is growing. You need to rest today."

She gave me some painkiller, and sent me out.

Fair enough. Rest today train tomorrow.

I walk back slowly to my room, and just sit in bed the entire day only getting up for lunch and dinner. I couldn't stop thinking about whether Tobias will come or not

I sleep soundly that night. So soundly I missed breakfast. I wasn't all that hungry either so its okay. Brunch is fine

I start getting ready at noon. I took a painkiller, and changed. Then I made my way into the training room.

Uriah and Chris are already there.

"Hey Tris." She grins.

"Did you invite anyone?" Uriah says.

"Err yes." I say.

"Oh it's okay. I mean as long as the person cares, you know." Christina says.

I nod and start stretching a bit.

The rest show up by a quarter til one. No one has invited anyone else yet. And no Tobias yet either.

"We will wait til one. And if your friend doesn't come we will have to start without him" everyone decides.

The clock clicks. Twelve fifty-five. Fifty-six fifty-seven.

One o'clock on the dot, Tobias walks in. I exhale. He came.

He wears a black tee and camouflage pants.

Christina looks at me shockingly and mouths, "You invited him?!"

I nod. Hopefully I won't regret this.

Maybe

Tobias stands against the wall. A good six feet away from me but I'm the closest to him.

"Okay. What a surprise." Uriah says.

He goes over the whole purpose of this club again, mainly for the invitee.

"Moving on." Christina says awkwardly. "Why don't we start off with a warmup. How about get with a partner and do some slow punching and blocking maneuvers."

She and Uriah demonstrate. Forearm to forearm blocking and then punching.

Everyone picks a partner. Wilson, Sarah and Jeremy form a group of three.

"Okay so I guess were partners?" Tobias says.

I turn. His face is lighter. Happier in a way

"Yeah." I say. His eyes are still his eyes though. Dark and impenetrable

We work in silence. He analyzes me, "You know it may help if you widen your stance just a bit in real combat."

"Thanks." I say quietly.

"What?" He asks.

"Your mood-swing is kinda creeping me out." I say

"I thought I'd give what you said a chance." He says quietly, looking around. "Give this a chance."

I smile.

"If I don't like it I'm not coming back!" He says lowly again

"Okay." I nod.

Change can be good or bad. Depending on how you react. And I have a feeling his change will be good.

And although he is quiet 90% of the time, his presence makes me feel happy, in a very peculiar way
