Tris POV
I thought it best if I left the infirmary, since I was awake. Not like I've laid there or on some sort of death bed relative cot enough times. Just looking at it made me feel nauseous. Nobody was there, so I left and went back to my room to rest.
Sure enough, my bed was a whole lot more comfortable. And I fell asleep in a snap
When I awoke again I checked the clock. I slept for an entire day. It was lunchtime. I felt much more energized and headed over to the dining hall.
There were familiar voices talking. Christina, Uriah, and Tobias. They seemed concerned.
"If anything severe has happened to her I'll never forgive myself." Chris says.
"Look you did nothing wrong." Uriah soothes her.
"Except kick her in the stomach." Tobias says.
"Maybe she's sick or something." Christina suggests.
"I'm going to go check her room." Tobias says.
Wait when did he care so much?
I pretend to not have overheard and slowly walk towards them.
"Tris!" Chris comes and embraces me.
"Hi" I say softly.
"You're alright!" Uriah says. "See I told you she's tough." He of course covers himself up
"Yea I'm fine. I should probably eat something. I guess I'll see you around." I walk away
Tobias follows, "Tris." he says.
"Yea?" I turn
"Are you alright?" He asks.
"Yes I'm fine." I say
I smell alcohol behind me, "So little sleeping beauty is finally awake. Hang out with us tonight?" Carlos and Andrew come behind.
I taste bile in my throat.
Tobias steps in front of me, "No sorry she's busy tonight."
Carlos's face drops, "Aww okay, well Tris don't forget you can ał ways come bang with us."
"Get lost." Tobias growls.
They surprisingly turn and wobble away.
"I'm busy tonight?" I ask
"Sure. You can come to my room." He says, "Now you need to eat."
LINEBREAK
Halfway during my meal Tobias speaks up suddenly
"You owe me an explanation." He sighs
I take a moment to comprehend, "Well what happened first?"
"You took a really unaggressive kick to the gut and then passed out. I took you to the infirmary and you woke up before I came back to check on you and left." He says
"Wait so who won the contest?" I ask
He scoffs, "That's what your concerned about? Who won the stupid contest of the stupid club when your life was endangered."
"Er yea I guess that is what I'm asking." I say. That wasn't a lateral trick question.
"I won." He sighs. "Happy?"
"Okay." I nod.
He waits, as if expecting me to tell him here while everyone surrounds our table still eating.
"Well?" He finally asks.
"Not here." I say quietly.
"Fine." He says.
I finish lunch and he takes me to his room.
Its larger than mine. Simple but big.
I sit on his bed and he stands a few feet away.
"Well? Are you better or what?" He asks very straightforward.
"Look I can't go back to training. It's too dangerous." I say quietly.
"What's gotten to you Tris?" Tobias asks, "I thought you wanted me to come. You thought it was fun and for a couple hours I agreed."
"I can't really explain it all that well myself either." I say
"Please Tris. Just try. Be guttural." He soothes
"No sorry I really can't."
"That's it I'm going to ask the nurse." He stands
"No don't! It's just one of my secrets that I can't tell anyone no matter what they think of me" I say
"Sorry Tris but I honestly can't think of anything that important to keep private especially since were all brainwashed here..." He says after a while
I say nothing.
"I just have this slim feeling that what the others said was wrong. But I'm starting to doubt that by the second." He crosses his arms.
"Okay okay fine. Promise to keep this a secret. Story in a nutshell, I'm pregnant." I say barely above a whisper. I trust he can keep a secret
"What?!" He shouts. "Who did that to you!"
I shush him. "I don't know."
"Are you kidding me it's hurting you. That nuisance puts you in more danger everyday because of those filthy bacchanals out therethat have no idea what they're doing with life!" He shouts.
"See this is why I shouldn't have told you. You don't understand." I say
"Don't understand what Tris?"
"That this is a life we are talking about. I have no idea who the father is but if the child was you. Would you want your mother to kill you?" I argue
"Tris that is not relevan-"
"It is sure as heck relevant!" I say angrily and stand up
"Tris don't go. I'm sorry." He replies finally.
"About what?" I scoff
"Getting angry at you. And possibly everything else that may have hurt you that I've said." He says
I say nothing, and so he continues, "I've always struggled with kindness."
"You don't say." I smirk, and he smiles.
Maybe there was something about him that convinced me to forgive him that easily. Something undefinable and special
"It-it probably isn't healthy for you to get angered at the moment, but just know I don't necessarily agree with you..." He says.
"That's cool." I say.
"Well what do you want to do tonight? Out of things your still comfortable to do." He says
"I mean I reserved your time for the night from those douchebags." He says
I laugh. "Well I probably shouldn't do much physical work."
"How do you vision the older Dauntless faction?" He says randomly.
"Uhhh." I chuckle, and he smiles, "Really I think they were more serious than we ever will become nowadays..."
We talked all afternoon, and during evening, Tobias and I went down to eat.
He was interesting. Very straight to the point. No maneuvers no trickery no hindrances.
It was almost a perfect night.
I sat down and he said, "I'm gonna go grab you some food okay. You stay put."
"Look I'm fine I am totally capable of getting my own nutrition." I chuckle
"Not to me you aren't. Not at such a critical point for you." He says
"Fine." I can't fight him now anyways.
I just sit there? Our table didn't have any food so Tobias had to go across the room to retrieve dinner.
I stare at his back, at that snaky flame tattoo coming around his neck.
Maybe I could ask him later.
