Grace loved to see Dan's smile, even if it was drawn on. A fake smile is better than no smile, as a fake smile is for the benefit of others, while no smile is just a blank face. She watched as his chest rose and fell at an alarmingly fast rate, which was not good. Grace didn't want Dan to die; she still loved him. That's why she doing this: I make him happy. They couldn't have a happy, healthy relationship with Phil in the was. To put it lightly, Grace was concerned that Dan wasn't happy.
"Dan?" Grace slowly crept over to the traumatized boy, careful as if he would explode with a slight touch.
All Dan could here were Phil's screams that weren't actually coming out and the constant ringing in his ears from dehydration.
"Danny, baby?" She softly touched his bony, protruding shoulder bone, causing him to flinch. "Shh, it's okay, I'm going to untie you. Calm down." Grace slowly moved her hand down to the metal chains around his wrists, keeping the other on his shoulder.
Dan sat still, trying not to scream as warm, salty tears rolled his face. Grace was touching him, and there was nothing he could do about it. He couldn't move.
Suddenly, the feeling of the restraints were gone.
Dan slowly brought his arms to his focal point to see that he really was untied... but why?
He was suddenly engulfed in a hug by Grace, who's usual sent of flowers was replaced my metal and blood. Dan felt drops of water hit his shoulders. Was Grace... crying?
"I'm so sorry," she sobbed, clutching Dan and mumbling those same three words over and over, as Dan slowly stood up. Grace stuck to him like cling wrap as he carefully stepped over Phil's possibly dead body and began walking towards the stairs.
Grace was brought back to her senses when Dan's foot reached the first step. She jumped on his back dug her nails into his skin and screamed. "What are you doing?"
Dan winced, falling to the ground. "You're never leaving me!" Grace shrieked, panicking as they fell. "I'm doing this because I love you!"
"You're what?" Dan's voice came out dry and crackly as if he'd been screaming for years.
Grace clung tighter, wrapping her arms around Dan's neck. "I took Phil," she panted. "To get him out of the way!" Grace screamed as Dan flipped her off of his back. "He was interfering," Dan crawled over to Phil's bloody body. "with our relationship!"
Grace continued to scream, but Dan blocked it all out. When he picked up Phil and held his cold body in his arms, he swore he could almost here his soothing voice, his beautiful laugh, and all of the wonderful things about him.
Dan knew what this was. This feeling... he had felt it before, right when he first met Phil.
Love.
"Grace," Dan spoke, his voice clear. "I don't love you."
She shut up for a moment. Just a moment of deadly silence was enough for Dan to know he fucked up. "What?"
It was then that Grace began to laugh, which came to a sudden stop a minute later. "Phil."
Dan's entire body shook. "Yes...?"
"So," she frowned. "You're braking up with me?"
"If that's what you want to call it, than yes."
