The next morning rolls by quickly enough.
Logan and I are already almost done with breakfast by the time Ryder stumbles into the dining room. His dark hair is disheveled and he didn’t bother throwing a shirt on.
He collapses onto the chair beside me, resting his head on the table. “Morning,” he mutters.
“Morning!” Lo and I chorus.
Ryder rolls his eyes and sits up straight. He blinks a couple of times and smiles at me. “Hey you! I didn’t even wake up when you got up.”
I grin sheepishly as he narrows his eyes at me.
“You went to Lo’s room, huh?”
I nod my head, biting my lower lip. I expect Ryder to be pissed off at me, but he just shrugs, pouring himself a bowl of cereal.
“You aren’t mad?” I ask uncertainly.
“Why would I be mad?” he counters through a mouthful.
“I mean…I kinda went to Lo’s room to spend the night,” I repeat. Maybe he’s still sleepy. Maybe he didn’t hear what I said earlier.
“I’m not the jealous type. Faye,” he murmurs, turning his attention back to his breakfast.
I throw a quick glance at Lo who shrugs. I grab my bowl and head over to the kitchen to wash it. Once I’m done, I walk back into the dining room where Ryder and Lo are laughing over something.
“Lo, we should be heading off,” I murmur.
He nods his head. “See you around Ry.”
Ryder nods his head, gives me a flying kiss but otherwise doesn’t do anything.
I climb into Lo’s mustang and we head off to school.
>>> End of the school day >>>
“So, will you be bringing Ryder Preston to prom?” Kayla asks as we walk out of the school building.
“I haven’t asked him, but I suppose so,” I murmur, shrugging. “Wait! Actually, I have no idea if he’s into prom. And he is older than us…maybe he won’t want to come?”
“Just ask him! I’m sure he’d do it for you,” she says, supremely confident.
I think Kayla may be more excited I’m dating Ryder than I am. Maybe she’s trying to live vicariously through me?
I spot Lo’s car on the end of the street. “I’ll ask him,” I promise Kayla. “Lo’s here. I got to go! See you on Monday!”
I trot over to the mustang and climb in. Lo’s face is drawn and he’s tensed.
“What happened?” I demand.
“You have to dump Ryder!” he hisses. He’s gripping his steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles have turned white.
“Lo, calm down and tell me what happened,” I whisper, laying my hand on his.
He gives me a piercing look and guns the engine.
“School ended early for me so I went home. Meg’s car was in the driveway,” he mutters.
Great! More Meghan drama! I hope she didn’t break his heart again!
