“Good morning,” I mutter as Meghan and her cronies begin getting up.

She gives me a withering look before turning away, pulling her thick, shiny hair into an elaborate ponytail. Darn the gods for giving someone as vile as Meghan the looks of an angel!

God, what I’d do to look like her!

“Are you done staring at me?” Meghan asks acidly, glaring at me. “Don’t tell me you’re bi!”

I feel my cheeks heat up in embarrassment!

Great, just great Faye! Why do you always get caught staring?

“Obviously not!” I huff indignantly. “You just have something on your forehead,” I lie, shrugging.

She rolls her eyes at me and I hear something that distinctively sounds like fur-eak!

Sighing at my misfortunes, I skip out of the room, deciding to explore more of the camp.  But as I’m coming out of the girls’ cabin, Ryder steps out of the guys’ and we end up meeting under the arched walkway.

                “Hey,” he murmurs, looking tired.

“Hi,” I mumble back, avoiding eye contact.

“So…we have some plotting to do…shall we?” he asks, holding a hand out for me.

Unthinkingly, I take his hand and he leads me back to the patch of grass under the shade of the huge tree where we had met up this morning.

The both of us sit in a sort of companionable silence for a while, each of us wrapped in our own thoughts.

“You know…the night Lolo and Meg broke up, he came over to my house. He was really upset,” I admit finally.

“I knew he was taking it bad…I mean, he was all moppy for quite a while. I think he really did like her,” Ryder continues, shrugging.

“He wasn’t moppy! He was fine with me,” I protest.

“Obviously he was fine with you. You’re his other half, kid. He’s always happy when he’s with you. But after you leave, he goes back to being sad,” he sighs.

“You sound…upset?” I prod, shifting so I’m sitting opposite him instead.

“I am. I’m his brother, but no matter how hard I try to distract him, it doesn’t work. It’s only you who can make him smile every single time, without fail,” Ryder hisses.

“Well…maybe it’s just coz we’re so close? We always know what the other is thinking,” I mumble, shrugging.

“Yeah…maybe,” Ryder concedes, leaning back to stare at the fluffy clouds.

“I kinda brought up the topic because…I was thinking, maybe we should help them patch things up?” I suggest timidly.

“You want them to get back together? I was under the impression that…well, you hated her guts.”

I laugh humorlessly, fixing him with an icy stare. “I do. I think she’s vile and I don’t think she deserves him. I think Lolo could do so much better…but if she’s who he wants…I’m not about to let him be unhappy. Besides, I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that he’ll be the one to dump her this time around,” I admit sheepishly.
