The Papercut That Ruined My Life

"And on your way to work on this fine Monday morning-" I slammed my hand down on the alarm clock that spewed the morning news every morning. There was no such thing as a 'fine' Monday morning. Monday's were anything but fine because it meant I had to go back to work. Groaning, I rolled out of bed and started getting ready for my day. I started off with putting on some black skinny jeans, followed by a white button up as usual. I then put in my seven earrings; three on one, four on the other. I then slipped my bloody rose into the front of my pants to keep it secure.

I always skipped breakfast, so it wasn't a big deal for me to just grab my wallet and keys and head out. I walked everywhere, and not just because I didn't have a car. I could easily afford one, I just didn't see any sense in paying so much for something that would probably either break down as soon as it depreciated, or someone would total it.

It was cloudy, which I appreciated because I hated the sun. Even if I wasn't a vampire I'm sure it would still piss me off with how bright and hot it was. There weren't as many people on the road yet since it was still fairly early and the morning rush hadn't quite started. You had those few smart people that left early to beat the rush, and then you had the people that walked to work as well like me. I walked passed a few others that I seen nearly every day, them saying some form of a greeting and I would simply wave at them or something of the sorts.

I was always the first one to work, which probably wasn't a surprise considering who I worked with. I clocked in and sat down at my desk, pulling my phone out and scrolling through pointless social media posts. I wouldn't have even gotten an account on any of it if Yuki hadn't pestered me to. I rolled my eyes at every single selfie I seen posted by teenage girls who had way to much confidence. Confidence is fine; unless you flaunt what you don't have. I had propped my feet up on the desk at some point because no one was in there at the time; Kaname and the entire fucking royal court walked in behind him like a bunch of snotty nosed assholes.

"Kiryu, feet down." He commanded and I rolled my eyes which made his followers hiss at me. I flipped him off and one of them, a girl with long blonde hair, tried to come towards me but was stopped by Kaname who held a hand up. "Don't, he's just a human who doesn't know any better." He said and I snorted while looking at my phone. I could feel him glare at me along with the rest of the vampires in the room.

"More like blatant disrespect." The girl who clearly wanted to rip me apart said with distaste. I simply chuckled, more amused at the fact that I was already pissing them off. "Do you know who you're talking-"

"Do you know who you're talking to?" I cut her off, putting my hands behind my head with my feet still on the desk might I add. She looked at me with a face that clearly read 'I don't give a fuck who you are'. "Good, then stop talking to me." I said and they shoved her on so she wouldn't attack me and drink my blood; or at least try anyway. I smirked as I heard them whispering about me and how much they already disliked me. Eventually though, it was time for work to begin and some of the others had shown up. I walked over to the desk to pick up my first assignment of the day.

"Hi, how are you today?" She asked sweetly and I just smiled a bit at her which made her blush and shuffle around with her papers. She handed me a stack and I began to walk away but she stopped me. "Wait! I gave you the wrong ones!" She said and I sighed quietly. All the vampires were still hanging around in the same room and I could feel their silent stares as I handed the papers back. That's when it happened.

It was like it happened in slow motion, as she pulled the papers from my hand and the sharp corner of the white paper dragged against the skin of my index finger. The dark red liquid that immediately dropped onto the counter was enough to have my eyes widening. All heads snapped over to me, their eyes glowing wide and me ignoring all of the stutters from the girl trying to apologize to me. I quickly pulled my gun out and pointed it in the direction of the vampires, making them hiss and bare their fangs.

I seen out of the corner of my eyes that Kaname was staring with wide eyes as well. He put his arm in front of his fellow vampires to keep them from moving forward, but I still kept my gun up. "Zero may I see you in my office for a short moment?" He asked, almost distantly.

"I'm not sure I trust you." I said and he narrowed his eyes. He turned his head and his eyes glowed red for a moment and they all backed away as if they were scared of him. I kept my gun in my hand as I followed him into his office, not taking my eyes off of any of the blood suckers in the room. I shut the door and he was standing at the window of his office.

"How did I not see it?" He asked himself, clearly confused with himself. "What was it? It was like as soon as your blood dropped from you, I could smell you. And you, you are no human." He accused and I rolled my eyes.

"Congrats on the realization there Sherlock." I said making him glare. The next thing I knew, he had me against the wall and a menacing look in his eyes.

"What are you playing at, Kiryu?" He asked, almost desperately.

"I'm not playing at anything. I was just trying to keep my ass from being attacked every fucking day by vampires. Something about me just made them swarm, so I had something done. It had worked until just now, otherwise you'd never know." I said and he backed up a bit.

"You can't seal pure blood, so what are you exactly?" He asked, and I walked over to where he had some books on a shelf.

"When I was younger, middle school aged, I was bitten by a pure blood. Shizuka Hio, was her name. When I was bit, I'd had pitch black hair and dark brown eyes. Afterwards it was like I took after her appearance. I'd expected to go insane like all other former humans turned into vampires, but it never happened." I stated and when I turned to him he seemed to be deep in thought. In a flash he was next to me, taking a book off the shelf and flipping through the pages quickly. As soon as he got to a certain page, his jaw clenched and the book caught on fire.

"Dammit."

I don't know at this point xD
