It was unusually chatty around all of my coworkers. Normally, it was silent with the exception of the typing sounds that we all made with our fingers. Most of the others weren't getting a damn thing done because they were whispering to each other. Must be something big, otherwise they wouldn't be constantly talking. However I ignored it, rolling my eyes and continuing with what I was doing.
I was always last to hear about important things, because I never actually cared enough to keep up with that kind of shit. They were probably just talking about Kuran getting a new outfit or something. There could be an upcoming sacrificial massacre from the vampires and I probably wouldn't care enough to talk about it. Hell, there had been sacrificial massacres before and I never bothered to care.
That sounded bad, fuck let me restate that; there wasn't anything I could do about it. Anyway, so as all the little teenage girls that worked here talked to the person next to them, I was actually doing my work because I wanted to go home. The giggles were giving me a headache, and I guessed that they weren't talking about a massacre. Rolling my eyes, I got up to turn in my finished work. There were quite a few people running in and out of the boss's office and I just figured he was behind on some shit. As soon as I turned around, I was taken into a bone crushing embrace by a shorter girl, brown hair, small. I narrowed my eyes.
"Yuki...." I stated with a sigh. Kaname walked in and seen the exchange. He narrowed his eyes as well.
"That's princess Yuki to you, Kiryu." He spat, and I was about to retort to him why I didn't have to call her that but Yuki beat me to it.
"No! It's fine, he can call me whatever. He was the boy that stayed with us at Uncle Cross'. You remember Cross, don't you? The one who put the sea-"
"Okay, yeah I remember him!" I stated, awkwardly laughing with her still hugging me. I didn't know what to do, so I just stood with my arms by my side. She just giggled and pulled away. "Yuki, what the hell are you wearing?" I asked, looking at her dress. It was a light pink, not a good color on her.
"Zero, you always have to say something about what I wear." She said and I shrugged. "What's wrong with it? Is the color wrong?"
"Very, very wrong. It doesn't go with your skin tone, you need something darker. Like a wine red, that would look good." I informed, and even Kaname seemed to agree.
"Well, I like the dress nonetheless. Kana picked it out!" She said and I had to hold back the comment I wanted to make, so I just snorted and crossed my arms. "Zero! You've gotten so tall! What have you been eating?" She asked, knowing why I was so tall. I cleared my throat, trying to get her attention and tell her that I was still trying to hide the fact that I was a vampire. "Oh! Yeah my bad. That sounds like a good diet!"
Oh yes, Yuki was a pure blood. Not the smartest of them all, but that's not a big deal. See, Yuki was one of the only vampires I didn't absolutely despise. I always knew she was one, even before she knew it, and I had to help her accept it. After Cross had put the seal on me, Yuki had forgotten that I was a vampire so when she was in that middle teenage part, she had a habit of saying that we didn't know what she was going through. That was funny, because I was still learning how to control my inner vampire as Cross had said.
And Yuki was so fucking clumsy, I swear it was like she was trying to drive me insane. She would go outside for five minutes and come back with a scraped knee or something and I would have to wrap it up. And it was a crime to drink from a pure blood, unless they turned you. And I hated the bitch that turned me, I would kill her before I drank from her.
"Zero, can I talk to you for a moment? In the elevator?" Yuki asked, scratching the back of her neck and avoiding Kaname's gaze. I just nodded once and she was immediately dragging me to the elevator and hitting the down button. After we went down enough floors to be out of earshot of even a pure blood, she stopped the elevator completely. "So we might have a slight problem in the future." She said, rubbing her hands together.
"What do you mean?" I asked, leaning against the wall.
"Kaname has been doing, I guess you could say, background checks on all of his workers and when he got to yours, he didn't find anything on you." She said and I just raised a brow, I knew there wasn't anything on me. "He found one picture of you, and that was of you when you had black hair and brown eyes. He's so confused over it, and I feel like he's going to question you about it. He doesn't like things kept from him, so if he knows that I know he's going to be pissed." She said quickly, running out of air at the end.
"And this is my problem because?"
"I'm supposed to marry him! Damn, you're so dense." I snorted. "Look, he's a prince. He's the pure blood prince, and I'm a pure blood. All the other female pure bloods are too old and he has to be able to have children so I have to marry him. I don't want him to be mad at me over this." She explained and I rolled my eyes. "Just, please if he asks you, don't lie to him." She said, looking up to me with big eyes.
"Fucking fine. But I'm not just gonna go up to him and be like 'oh yeah I'm a vampire thought you would want to know that'." I said and she laughed.
"Thank you, big brother."
"No, don't do that. Now let us go back up." I said and she nodded. When we reached the top again, and the doors opened, I motioned for her to go first. "Her royal highness has returned." I said, making her glare softly but she couldn't hide her smile. I smirked at her, seeing Kaname still staring at me with narrowed eyes. I winked, making his eyes widen a bit and I nearly had to laugh.
Oh he'll never know.
I don't know what this shit is lol.
