Home. Yes that was the most relaxing place I had. I could avoid everyone there, I technically didn't have to leave since I owned it. Sadly, I knew I'd surely go insane if I didn't at least leave every once in a while. Sadly though, I didn't get to spend as much time there as I wanted. I usually had to stay at my job till late in the evening, and then I had patrols until midnight. That left me about four hours of sleep and then I had to get ready for work.
However I didn't feel like patrolling. I thought, what could one night not going hurt? It couldn't do too much damage, could it? I knew I wasn't the only one that patrolled, so it should be fine without me.
However I was proven way wrong when I looked out of my window of my apartment that was nearly on top of a very tall building. There was a group of rogues trapping a small family in a corner. They had a small child and they were guarding it with themselves. Rolling my eyes, I slid open the door to my balcony and started climbing down rather quickly, since I'd done it a few times. When I got closer to the ground, I jumped down and shot my gun midair, killing the disgusting thing and turning it into dust.
The family still seemed in shock and I looked them over. "Are you guys alright?" I asked and they didn't move. Sighing, I grabbed some of the dust and put it in my pouch, a way of how we keep up with how many and who we kill. "I'm going to escort you home, okay? They won't hurt you as long as I'm with you. I have anti-vampire weapons, it won't hurt you, but it will hurt them. Please tell me your address." I said, trying to not sound as irritated as I was. They eventually agreed, and I simply followed them home.
"Thank you sir!" The little boy said, flashing me a smile. I couldn't help but smile back at him slightly. I knelt down to his level.
"No problem, but now we know not to be so careless at night right?" I asked and he nodded. My eyes widened when he threw his arms around my neck and hugged me. His parents smiled at me and I awkwardly patted his back. "Alright buddy, I think it's your bed time." I said and he pouted, but let go nonetheless. I waved at him as they went inside their home. I then turned around and began walking home.
Thinking back now, it took a lot to get the people to trust vampires. They had to earn it. They practically had to stand in front of the world and swear that they were not after the blood of humans. Sad thing is, people believed them. I still remembered that horrid day when one of those damned thing bit me. I was just minding my own business, walking home from grade school when it had started to snow. I wanted to try to wait it out under a bus stop since it was colder in the snow. I'd sat down, waiting for it to slack up when a strange lady with hair white as the snow around us.
At the time, I'd had pitch black hair. I stood out from most of the people around me, but never as much as she did even though she blended into the scenery around us. I couldn't help but stare at first, and when she looked at me, I glanced down. Her eyes were a pink color, almost like a cherry blossom. She smiled at me, but it wasn't a kind one. It was an amused one, a taunting one.
"I'll make sure you're never cold again."
I shook my head, ridding myself of her voice. As soon as the transformation had began, I'd noticed changes in my appearance. My eyes began to change from a dark, deep brown to a lighter color every day. Turning into a reddish brown that eventually faded into what I had today, lavender. My hair wasn't much different. It started to turn grey, almost like I'd aged eighty years in a month. Soon enough, my hair was a striking silver, opposed to the nearly unnatural black that had once adorned my head. Honestly, the silver suited me better than the black did. My eyes were the most captivating thing about me, so I've heard anyway.
The reason I hated my change in appearance was because I looked like her. The damn pure blood that thought it would be a good idea to bite me, drink my once pure blood, and leave me in the white snow. I turned it red, trying my hardest to get to a nearby house. That was where I found a man that put a seal on me after I'd changed. He'd taken care of me because no one wanted a vampire boy.
I sighed, trying to take my mind off of the sob story I had. Truth was, I didn't have a bad life. I just didn't like who I was, but who really did? I was like everyone else, I had a shitty job that I hated, was constantly being reminded that vampires ruled the earth, and I had no friends. Okay, so maybe I had one, but she was way too busy to hang out. I was pulled out of my thoughts when a hand grabbed onto my arm, long nails close to digging into my skin. I hit the arm in the elbow, making their grip loosen just enough for me to yank my arm out.
I took my gun and shot the crazed animal that was trying to kill me. I sighed as I began putting some of the dust in the bag. The thing that got me the most, was that I had been at the entrance of my apartment building when it tried to attack me.
"When does it fucking end?" I mumbled to myself, knowing that it never would. I gathered myself and went inside where I flopped down on the bed and let my restless sleep welcome me. What a day.
