Still Chapter 3
Jack
I was going to my English class after I had placed my items in my locker when I saw a boy with rather messy brown hair looking around, a confused expression plastered on his face. I tilted my head and slowly jogged towards him, hoping to be of any help when he suddenly tripped and fell over. Frowning, I approached him and extended a hand, glaring at the others who was giggling or stifling their laughter. I felt his hand grip onto mine and I turned back to look at him. I gave him a smile and pulled him up. "Are you okay?" I asked. He nodded and looked away, and that's when I saw his eyes brimming with tears. My grin changed into a concerned expression. "So uh, I have to go to English class now," I mumbled, studying him to find any signs of injuries before I walked away. Suddenly, I heard a voice shouting at me. "Wait!" I spun around, stopped walking and saw the boy running towards me. "My first period's English, too," he mumbled and I smiled as a response, motioning at him to follow me. It was rather awkward since he was walking behind me and we were silent throughout. Soon we reached class and I went to sit at the back and the far left of the classroom. I don't know why, but I secretly hoping he'd sit beside me. However, he simply lingered at the door. It was apparent that he seemed unsure as to where he should sit. As I was about to ask him if he could sit next to me, the shrill voice of Mrs Jones and the sound of her heels echoed through the corridors. "What are you doing at the entrance, boy?" she demanded. The boy mumbled something inaudible as a reply. Mrs Jones then entered the classroom and slammed the pile of worksheets down on her study desk, causing some of the students (including myself) to jump in shock before she motioned for the boy to enter the class.
"Class, we have a new transfer student," she announced before turning to the boy and said something to him
I watched as he glanced around nervously before mumbling, "I'm Alex."
I smiled to myself. Alex. That's a wonderful name. It fitted him well, in my opinion.
I find his shyness rather adorable. Though, he also seemed scared and uncomfortable. I wonder why. My smile widened into a grin. I was determined to be an exception --- I wanted him to be comfortable around me. I'm not sure why, but I just do. Perhaps it's due to my nature - wanting everyone around me to be comfortable and happy. Everyone around me that I like, that is.
Mrs Jones nodded and patted him on the shoulder encouragingly. "Alright Alex, I'm sure you can go along well with the class! I'm Mrs Jones," she said with a smile before pointing to the empty seat beside me, much to my secret delight. "Please take a seat beside Jack over there."
He sat beside me, folding his arms. I tried to be friendly with him. "Nice to meet you, Alex," I grinned, but he stiffly nodded. As Mrs Jones began the lesson, I attempted to converse with him again but to no avail. He seemed to care more about the lesson and ignored me. I let out a sigh and slouched down my seat with a slight frown. This was going to be a tough nut to crack.
