Chapter 25
Jack
My mum called to ask me to get home, so after I bid good-bye to Alex, I headed straight home. My happiness was indescribable. The person I loved and cared for the most was back. And he's changed for the better; all of his scars faded and he was more positive and cheerful. In certain ways, he reminded me of my old self. Before the whole incident. I sighed, glancing at my arms resentfully. Although the scars were covered by the fabric of my long sleeve, I am aware of their presence.
I regret starting this. It wasn't worth it. I should've waited. I was foolish.
Well, it was too late to regret this now.
I'll just have to stop.
When I entered my house, I headed straight to my room, ignoring my parents' greetings as I passed by them. Those pricks. They annoyed me. They were the sole cause for many things.
I mentally slapped myself. Stop blaming them. You were the cause for Alex's accident.
Alex's voice echoed through my head. It's not your fault. It's never your fault. Just forget about it. Forget about everything, and start anew. I could hear him say those words, despite the fact that he didn't actually tell me these things. Nonetheless, a smile spread across my face.
I should forget about the past.
I looked around my room before my gaze fixed on the drawer beside my bed. I walked towards it and pulled out the bottom drawer and carefully took the blades hidden beneath the piles of mess. I stared at it, then at the trash can that lay at the corner of my room. I held the blades in my palms carefully and walked to the bin, dropping the items.
It's time to start afresh.
For Alex.
I grinned proudly at myself.
Job well done, Jack.

AlexThe sound of my phone buzzing sounded across the room. I put my lyric book and pencil down, grabbing my phone that lay on the other side of the bed. I glanced at the notification that flashed on my screen. 'New text message from Jack Bassam Barakat:
I threw them away for you. :)'
I tilted my head slightly. What is that supposed to mean? Then it hit me - he threw away all his blades. A grin tugged at my lips. I hurriedly slid my finger across the screen, tapping in my passcode and replying to his text.
'I'm so proud of you. I love you, Jacky!'
I hit the send button and slid my phone into my pocket before dashing downstairs. "I'm going to Jack's!" I yelled as I ran past my mum, heading straight to his house. I lifted my hand and knocked on the wooden door. There was a shuffling noise before the door was opened, revealing Jack's father in his pajamas. I grinned awkwardly.
"Hey, Mr. Barakat," I exclaimed cheerfully, peering behind him, "is it all right if I come in?"
He let out a laugh and moved aside, allowing me to enter. I grinned again, thanking him before I tip-toed upstairs towards Jack's room. His door was ajar (thankfully for me) and I peeked inside, noticing Jack's back facing me, sat with his phone in his hands. I sneaked my way towards him, as quietly as possible. He didn't seem to notice until my phone vibrated in my pocket, giving me away. I burst into giggles, my hand on my stomach as I threw my head back and let out a laugh.
"Damn it!" I said as Jack turned around and noticed my presence. He laughed as well, standing up and wrapping his arms around me.
"Hey babe," he mumbled into my ear and I grinned, hugging him tightly back.
We stood there in his room and hugged each other for quite a while before pulling away, both of us plopping down on his comfortable mattress. I fished in my pocket for my phone before pulling it out, looking at the message that he had sent me earlier.
'I love you too, 'Lex. Thank you so much for supporting me. You're the best fucking thing in my life and I love you. So much.'
I flushed scarlet at his words, letting out a soft 'aww' in response to his message, the grin on my face growing wider and wider as I read and reread it again. I put the phone down on my lap and looked at Jack, still flashing the grin plastered onto my face. He flashed the grin back and kissed my cheek lightly. "I know it's kinda cheesy and all but... yeah." Jack let out a slight laugh as he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, a light tinge of pink decorating his cheek. I chuckled and gave him a peck on the lips.
"I love you too, Jack. You were always there when I needed you and I'm really glad I could do the same. I love you. I really fucking do." I muttered and grabbed hold of his hand, gazing into his brown orbs.
"You're so fucking beautiful," Jack said, his gaze fixated into mine. His eyelids closed and he crashed his lips against mine. My eyes closed as well, a smile spreading across my face uncontrollably as we kissed.
Things were taking a turn for the better.
And I'd like things to stay that way.
