Chapter 22
Alex
My parents entered the ward along with the doctor. He said I could leave, since my parents have already signed some form and whatnot. I grinned at that fact. I didn't have to stay in this depressingly boring place any longer. Once I was discharged, I left the room, slipping my hand into Jack's. He looked up at me with a smile, and I returned it back warmly.
My parents drove us back to our house and dropped us off before they returned to work. I collapsed onto the sofa with Jack, taking in a deep breath before letting out a sigh, a content look on my face. "It's good to be home," I murmured, looking around me. Nothing had changed, and that was perfect. Jack chuckled, resting his arm that went around me on the sofa. "It sure is."
I grabbed the TV remote that lay on the table in front of us, my thumb pressing against the button that switched on the television. I flipped through the channels, looking for something entertaining to watch when I got to a channel that was showcasing one of Jack's favourite cartoons. "Adventure Time!" he exclaimed excitedly, moving his hands to his lap and sitting up straight like a five-year-old. I let out a laugh and the two of us sang to the short theme song, like the first few times he came over to my house two months ago.
When the episode ended, I switched off the TV and turned to look at Jack. "So! What happened while I was busy sleeping my ass off?" I asked with a grin. He frowned, fiddling with his sleeve slightly. "Um..."
"Anything in school?" I asked, wanting to distract him from whatever he's trying to hide.
"Uh... well, you got a lot of homework... guess that's all," he mumbled, looking down at his lap as he continued to fiddle with his sleeve.
"...Did Jacob and his bunch of mindless fools bother you?" I questioned.
Jack muttered something under his breath. I scowled. "So they did?"
Hesitantly, he nodded.
I frowned and cupped his face, lifting them up to face me. "What did they do?" I whispered sadly.
He sighed. "The usual, I guess."
I kissed his cheek. "I'm so sorry."
"It's not your fault."
"Yes it is. That's why you started, isn't it?" I mumbled. Jack's eyes widened in shock and he shook his head rapidly.
"It's not your fault!" he cried, wrapping his arms around me, pulling me into a hug.
"Please don't leave again," he whimpered. My heart shattered. I've hurt him so bad. I smiled and ran my hand through his hair, stroking him softly.
"Hush now, Jack. I'll never leave you," I said into his ear soothingly. He pulled away and gazed into my eyes.
"Really?"
I smiled and nodded firmly. "Really really."
Jack pressed his lips against mine. I closed my eyes, kissing him back before pulling away. "Well... You wanna talk about it? Upstairs?"
He shook his head. "Not really... But can we still go upstairs?"
I chuckled. "Of course."
The two of us got up, switching off the TV before we headed to my room. I jumped onto my bed, taking in the scent of my mattress. It seems like it's been changed recently. I grinned and felt the comfortable fabric of the sheets slightly before rolling over, allowing Jack to have some space to clamber up. I spread my arms across the bed, one of them resting on Jack's chest. He turned to look at me with a wide grin and I did the same. I watched as he intertwined his fingers with mine as we lay down on our bed staring up at the ceiling.
"So. Let's start. My name is Alex Gaskarth. I love to sing, guitar, write, and I'm falling head over heels for a certain boy," I said with a lopsided grin.
Jack chuckled, deciding to play along. "My name is Jack Barakat. I love burritos and guitars, and I'm falling head over heels for a certain boy. Also, I fucked your mum," he winked. I pretended to let out a horrified gasp.
"How could you?!" I exclaimed dramatically, turning away slowly to increase the effect of exaggeration. He laughed, causing me to laugh along.
It's been so long since we've first laughed together, and it felt amazing.
"Well... Who's this 'certain boy' that you like, Alex?" He asked me cheekily, though he already knew the answer.
"Hmm... His name happens to be Jack Barakat," I said, the side of my lips curling up to form a smile. Jack giggled.
"And what about you?" I asked, the smile on my face growing wider as every second passed.
"Well," he pretended to ponder for a moment, his eyes wandering around the room and looking anywhere else but at me. I tilted my head and let out a small laugh as his brown orbs finally fixated onto mine, "that boy goes by the name of Alex Gaskarth," he answered before he crashed his lips against mine.
