Chapter 20
Forever's never seem so long,
'cause when you're not around
It's like a piece of me
is missing.
Jack
(A month later)
It's been a month since the accident.
My parents didn't object to my visits. I explained everything.
Well, almost everything.
They finally decided to understand my relationship with Alex.
That was a good thing.
I started to distance myself away from everyone else. Rian, especially. He tried to talk to me, but it was no use.
I need Alex.Jacob and his gang started beating me up too, but that was fine.
I needed a distraction from my pain.
-----
(FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS)
I slowly closed the metal door shut with a sigh, causing it to let out a creak of protest. I didn't know why I even bothered. This was just a waste of time.
I slung my heavy schoolbag over my shoulder, trudging along the marble tiled school grounds. I was about to head back, to visit Alex again, when I felt someone grab me by the shoulder roughly and pushed me against the lockers. I cringed and let out a small gasp as I felt my back slam against the metal doors, sliding down and landing onto the floor. I glanced up to see Jacob, along with two other brutes. They smirked and Jacob let out a laugh.
"Where did your little boyfriend go, Barakat?" he said with a smug grin.
I bit down on my lip and stood up slowly, but he pushed me down again with a shove. He growled, "You're pathetic, just like him. Poor little Barakat, all alone without his little boyfriend," he sneered. I felt the tears threatening to spill down my cheeks as a train of thought passed through my mind.
It's all my fucking fault.
And I deserve all of this.
Jacob swung a leg and my chest, landing on my chest painfully and I let out a whimper, blocking the area as much as I could with my arms as a reflex but quickly put it down.
Don't you dare block their attacks, you fucking deserve it.
They kept on hurtling abuse, both through actions and words. I let the tears flow freely down my bruise and battered face.
I deserve this.
I deserve all of this.
------
I sat on the stool again, looking at Alex's lifeless body.
Mr. and Mrs. Gaskarth said that he slipped into coma.
I smiled - a brittle smile - at him, running my hand through his hair gently.
"You've been sleeping for quite a while now, Alex," I whispered. I looked at his arms.
The scars were healing. The cuts that once lay on his arms faded into a lighter shade of his skin tone.I rolled up my own sleeves and stared at my arms.
Recent cuts, scattered all over my ugly self.I'm ashamed of myself. I thought I never would do this.
But I did.
I couldn't take it.
I unrolled my sleeves again, hiding all my scars. Alex doesn't need to see them. No one does.
I glanced down his arm, staring at the needle that was still stuck into his wrist.
"You got loads of homework piled up for you. That's what you get for sleeping for so long, 'Lex," I murmured with a chuckle. I grasped his hand firmly, staring at the slightly transparent mask that covered his mouth and nostrils. I planted a kiss on his forehead before returning back to my seat.
I stroked his hand gently. "You've gotta wake up, Alex. You have to." I bit down on my lip, trembling slightly. Don't fucking cry Jack. Man up.
"I need you," I murmured.
Suddenly I felt a movement and my eyes widened. I watched as Alex stirred slightly before his eyelids fluttered open to reveal his eyes.
Oh, those beautiful brown eyes.
I missed them so much.
For the first time, a genuine grin formed in my face.
"Jack?" he mumbled, looking dazedly at me as he sat up.
My grin widened, "I missed you so fucking much." I bit down on my lip, resisting the temptation to jump onto the bed and give him a tight hug. He smiled, but it quickly turned into a frown when he saw my bruised face."Jack, what happened?" he murmured sadly, before noticing my long sleeves.
"Why are you wearing long sleeves...?"
My wide grin faltered to a small smile, "Nothing... it's nothing. Don't worry about me. Just... work on recovering, okay?"
Alex didn't say anything, but he nodded.
He doesn't need to know.
No one does.
