Chapter 11

Jack

I spun my pen around my fingers, staring idly at the clock that hung on top of the whiteboard. This class was so fucking boring. I let out a yawn, not bothering to cover my mouth as I did so. The teacher shot me a glare before he pointed at me with the marker in his hands, "Mr Barakat, if you would so kindly tell us the answer to my question?"

I rolled my eyes and stood up. "I don't know."

The teacher scowled. "For your information, Mr Barakat, I required someone to name a capital that is near the equator," he stated and I sat down, folding my arms.

"Detention after scho-" just as he was about to finish his sentence, there was a knock on the door. With a look of annoyance on his face, the teacher opened the door. "Now there, Mr. Dawson! Why are you so late?" Mr. Dawson? My brain processed the name for a while before it clicked. Rian.

"I was bus-" Rian began, but the teacher waved him off. What a fucking dick.

"No time no time, quickly settle down," he said and Rian nodded before occupying the empty seat beside me.

The teacher continued with his dull lesson (Haha, that fucker forgot about my detention) while I chatted with Rian.

"You're late today, surprisingly. Thought you were the more responsible one. Guess I was wrong, hm?" I said jokingly, expecting him to laugh but he had a grim look on his face. I frowned. Something's not right. Rian's usually not like that.

"What happened?"

"Jacob and his bunch of fools, that's what," he said. I arched a brow. Huh. They're up to shit again?

"Who was it this time? That one nerd from like, Science class?" I asked.

"It was that guy you introduced me to yesterday. Alex was his name, I think?"

My eyes widened and I slammed my hand against my table. "What?" I exclaimed loudly. Everyone turned to look at me curiously and the teacher let out a frustrated sigh.

"Now Mr. Barakat, one more warning and I'll send you straight out!"

I mumbled an apology before I hissed, "Why Alex? What the fuck?"

Rian gave me a shrug. "I don't know man, but shit. He's in the nurse's office right now, I don't know whether he's left yet or not but hell, we should probably report this."

I shook my head. "You know that's a bad idea, they'll probably beat him up more after they're done with a certain period of suspension from school. Or maybe they'll even fucking confront him when they find out where he lives."

He frowned, "Well then, we'll have to stick with him and make sure no one does anything."

I gave a nod and a grateful smile. "Thanks, dude."

He chuckled and patted my back, "Any time."

Soon, the bell rung and students scrambled out of their seats and into the hallways. I grabbed my things and Rian and I went out of the class together. I took my phone and swiped my finger across the screen, unlocking it and going to my 'Notes' app. The next lesson was English, with 'Alex' typed out beside it. My lips curled up into a smile. Rian must've noticed, because he grinned as well and elbowed my side jokingly, "Looks like little Jacky has a crush!"

I flushed from embarrasment and my cheeks turned a light red. "Shut the fuck up, asshole," I muttered and he laughed.

"No worries, dude! I knew you had a thing for him in the beginning. I won't judge you, I swear."

I rolled my eyes. "Who said I was in love with him? We only just met," I said, though I felt my cheeks getting warmer. Oh my god, do I really have a crush on him?

He scoffed. "So what dude? The way you care about him and everything. You don't even show that much of a concern for me!"

I nudged him and he laughed. "Well, better get to class," he said and I nodded in agreement. Rian gave me a pat on the shoulder before he went off, and I went to English class.

I soon entered the classroom and noticed Alex sitting at the back corner again, staring idly out the window and I went to sit down beside him. He glanced at my direction before grinning, "Hey, Jack." I returned the grin back. "Hey."

There wasn't shit to do, Mrs. Jones took a sick leave and now we have some substitute teacher letting us do whatever we want. Not that it's a bad thing.

"So... uh, are you okay?" I asked, but he ignored my question. I frowned. "I know what Jacob and his friends did," I mumbled and he shrugged. I glanced at his arms and face, all were decorated with bruises. That pained me to see him hurt like that...

"Let's not dwell on that, yeah?" Alex said with a smile. "If you say so..." I murmured.

I twiddled my thumbs awkwardly, the atmosphere around us was awkwardly silent (despite the fact that other people in class were chatting among one another) until he asked, "Are you guys still going to come over today?" Come over to his house? What for? I knitted my brows and thought for a moment when suddenly Alex started to giggle. Oh my god, did he just giggle? Jesus, he's so fucking cute when he giggles.

"What?" I said and folded my arms, sticking out my bottom lip childishly into a pout.

"You're cute when you're thinking, with your tongue sticking out and all," he said with a grin and I blushed. "Shut up, asshole," I mumbled and he laughed again.

"So, are you guys coming over? For the video game thing?"

Oh, that's what. I almost forgot. How could I have forgotten? "Yeah! That'd be awesome."

A/N: I figured that I should write from Jack's point of view more. I don't know why but I felt the need to do so.

As per usual, I couldn't figure out a song-lyric title for this chapter. Sadly.

Nonetheless, enjoy!
