The fire escape led the way up to an entrance Cynthia always had open. Just in case.
Cynthia smiled, relishing the idea of striding into the conference room where they would be seated. She vaulted over a railing and began to climb the slippery ladder.
Life had got there first.
"Aww... fuck this!"
A keypad stood in the way of her reaching safety.
It never occurred to her that maybe something was up...
