Character Fails (Katara)

It just gets worse. The film Katara does not look like her at all! The clothes, the necklace, and- GASP!!!

WHERE ARE HER HAIR LOOPIES!!??!!

WHERE DID THEY GO!?!

I can't believe they were left out of the movie. I have to say, Katara's hair loopies is one of the most iconic hairstyles since Leia's cinnamon bun things. I'm disgusted, M. Night Shyamalan.

The movie did not portray Katara's character well at all. She was just a flat, blank face who did stupid, annoying stuff in the movie that made me roll my eyes more than once. When she meets Aang she says something like, "You're my responsibility."

Ummm, okay? Imagine some girl you just met tell you that. Creepy on so many levels.

After movie Aang stole her speech about hope, Katara runs up to a Fire Nation soldier and shoves him like, "Leave him alone!" Please, if that happened in the show (Which it never would, the real Katara isn't that stupid) She would have been knocked down before she reached him. Also, when they are trying to get the "captured" earthbenders to fight she's all like, "Don't be afraid!" Whatever. Ugh, she got on my nerves so much.

The real Katara is a nurturing, strong person, who has a passion to fight for what's right and to help anyone she can. She became a motherly figure to Sokka, at one point Aang, and Toph as well. She is able to take charge in a crisis (the desert, anyone?) and is smart and very brave.

Here's something else that irked me. Every so often, Katara will do some voice over narration describing what they are doing SO MUCH, to the point there is more of that than on-screen dialogue. (Not that its high quality or anything. Who wrote this script? Oh, right.) You see, narration can become distracting and highly annoying, especially when its not necessary. Timing is very important and some movies can pull off narration like The Sandlot. It was infrequent, had substance, and helpful.

The same can't be said for this narration. Epic fail.

Also, this isn't really about Katara but I wanted to say that it was annoying that they kept labeling where they were in the world at the time at every scene change. It worked in the Captain America movies, but not here. Sorry.

So, they failed on Aang and Katara, but what about Sokka? They couldn't have flubbed him up, right?
