Battle of the North Pole

The North Pole was the season finale for the show so it was obviously the climax for the movie.

It was as if they chopped up the North Pole, put it through a blender, and refroze it. It was terrible. They got so many things wrong I don't even know where to start.

Well, when Aang, Katara, and Sokka arrived, they were greeted by Chief Arnook and Princess Yue. They all actually don't talk and some stupid narration says, "Sokka met Princess Yue and they instantly grew close." Something like that. No! Why couldn't we actually see their relationship develop during their time there? Sokka and Yue were so cute in the show and then there was all the drama when Yue was going to be married to another guy.

There was absolutely no mention of that in the movie! That was a very important factor in the outcome of the coming battle. In the show, Sokka met Yue's fiancé, Hahn , who later insulted Sokka. They fought and Sokka was kicked off the invasion force by Chief Arnook and then he was asked to watch over Yue during the battle. In the movie, Sokka being asked to watch Yue seemed really out of place because we didn't see how they interacted with each other beforehand.

So, the Sokka/Yue relationship was never seen in the movie and then she gives her life to the killed Moon Spirit and she dies. Movie Sokka cries a lot and-that's that. YUE DOESN'T TURN INTO THE MOON SPIRIT?!?! What's with that? It makes sense in that if she returned the part of the Moon Spirit back that she would be it's persona, right? Instead, she just lies there, dead.

Wow, that's a bit dark, coming form something that was based off of a kid's show. (More on this later)

Let's backtrack back to when the siege on the North by the Fire Nation fleet begins. For some reason, instead of launching flaming rocks from catapults off their ships, soldiers get into the area by drilling through the ice from below using drill helmets. Yes, a helmet with a drill on top. That's stupid. DRILL HELMETS ARE STUPID AND IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO DRILL THROUGH ICE THAT THICK! Then the slo-mo bending I mentioned earlier begins with a lot more battle/death images than I would prefer.

If you think that's stupid, guess what else? So like, in the show, Zuko captures Aang while he's in the Spirit World but instead of trying to escape with him, movie Zuko takes Aang and ties him up a storeroom in one of the ice buildings.

????????????????????????

Where's the logic with that? Of COURSE the real Zuko would try to escape with Aang! What would be accomplished with staying?

It gets better. Aang returns from the Spirit World, breaks his bonds and fights Zuko USING REGULAR MARTIAL ARTS! In other words, NO BENDING!!!

WHY WOULD A FIREBENDER AND AN AIRBENDER NOT USE FIRE OR AIR TO FIGHT EACH OTHER???!!!???

What's with that? One, benders use the elements to fight and non-benders are the ones who use weapons, like Sokka and his boomerang (which looks stupid in the movie, by the way).

Two, hand to hand combat and the war/death stuff from before goes totally against the original creators' want to have "action without violence." Hence, bending.

Then, Aang is saved by Katara who freezes Zuko in a block of ice and they escape from him.

Yay. Then Aang goes into the Avatar State and scares off the fleet with a monster tidal wave (more on this in a later chapter).

Ugh. It was so horrible. I haven't even backtracked all the way to when Aang was taught waterbending by Master Pakku. It was really boring. Aang did some weird arm movements for 5 minutes until a sphere of water floated around. The whole time, he had his same dull, pouty face. The real Aang was never that serious. The real Aang had a natural talent for bending though he never took it as seriously as Katara, who quickly surpassed him.

Oh yeah. Katara was allowed to learn how to waterbend too. In the show, she was originally forbidden to due to the fact she was a girl. The fight that ensued between her and Master Pakku revealed Katara's determination to not let anyone stop her from what she wanted to do. It was a great show of her strong character and the movie completely cut it out.

What a disgrace.
