An Interview that Makes Everything Clear

If that's true, then I'm a purple platypus-bear.

To purify my image of the Avatar world after seeing this awful movie for the first (and last) time, my sister and I decided to binge-watch the whole series on DVD. (Seriously, you can buy them all online!) One of the things I liked was that the DVDs had some cool bonus features on how they made the show so awesome.

The bonus features section contained an interview between the creators of ATLA (Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino) and M. Night Shyamalan himself. And guess what they were talking about? Yes, the upcoming film adaptation of the beloved show.

Prepare to scream.

This was an old interview because they mentioned that the last season of ATLA hadn't been released yet, so do the math. Shyamalan said that he got interested in the show when his daughter wanted to be Katara for Halloween (awww) and so he was intrigued and decided to watch the show (season 1 and 2 because they were the only ones out)

And get this! Before deciding to make Avatar a movie, he said he watched the show SEVERAL TIMES!!!!!!!!!

WHAT IS THIS!?!?!?

He actually watched the show? More than once!?!?

I'm not buying it.

Then the innocent Bryan and Michael ask about his favorite characters and he says Aang. Shyalaman literally says Aang. Pronounced correctly and everything!

??????????????????????

Are you telling me that he changed the way the main character's name is pronounced ON PURPOSE!?!?

Then the interview wrapped up with Bryan and Michael saying how excited they were to see the movie. Poor guys. They had no idea what they were getting into.

And now they pretend that the movie doesn't exist.

Before you ask why the creators didn't get any input into the movie, I'm telling you that it doesn't normally happen. The creators of TV shows and books usually have no say in what the movie people do. Its a lot of stuff about signing off rights and permission and things like that.

And, before you say J.K Rowling had a lot of input, that was one of the FEW times that has ever happened. She was very strict about her story and characters so she wanted to be involved and thank goodness she did! Can you imagine if Shyamalan directed Harry Potter?

*shudder* I don't even want to go there.
