*Friday*
Imogen walked to her locker humming a tune while some grade niners stood by singing Friday by Rebecca Black loudly. A red shirt, Katie, Imogen guessed walked by calling them lifeless and talentless. Though Imogen had to agree that they were singing off key they were simply having fun. Something she assumed Katie never had.
Imogen’s phone buzzed, a text from Eli: so ready for that Rock concert tomorrow.
Imogen sighed. She forgot to tell him her parents said she couldn’t go. In the middle of them fighting her dad told her no because he didn’t want her to leave, especially with two boys he never met. She told him that technically one of them was transgender so it was ok. But he told her that was even worse. To make matters even worse he was aware of Eli crashing his hearse because he saw it on the news. He assumed he was suicidal, homicidal, and obsessed with death.
“Hey Imogen, what’s going on?” Adam ran his fingers through his short hair.
“Adam Torres, I’m fine, shouldn’t you be doing the radio show right now?” Imogen never took her eyes off the books in her locker, repeatedly rearranging the books simply because they looked weird the way they were set.
“Yeah I was on my way, but, I need to talk to you.” Adam once again fiddled his fingers.
Imogen glanced at him quickly and then went back to putting her books in alphabetical order. “About?”
“Eli, and his medication.” Adam looked around to make sure Eli wasn’t around.
“Eli Goldsworthy is fine, he’s doing well. He hasn’t freaked out since…well since you made him mad and suggested he go back on those death pills.”
“Death pills?! Look he needs those alright. What if just out of the blue he loses his damn mind?”
“What is he going to do Adam Torres? Crash his already crashed hearse?” Imogen pursed her lips.
“Look those pills can really help him.”
“Help him? Help him what? Overdose? Eli is strong and he’ll get through this.” Imogen clutched her books hoping she was getting to Adam. She let out a huge sigh. “Adam…”
“No, I see your point.” Adam sighed too. “Just…just consider talking to him about it.” Adam looked up at the clock hanging from the ceiling. “I gotta go, see you at the concert.”
Imogen shook the thoughts from her head and walked to class.

“I’m home mom!” Imogen dropped her bag on the floor. Her mom came downstairs smiling.
“How was school today Gina?” her mom smiled a faint smile. It was obvious she was tired.
“Mom I changed my name to Imogen a looong time ago.” she grabbed an apple and took a bite.
“I know sweetie, I just don’t get why. Gina Moreno, now THAT is a beautiful name. Imogen is just so…”
“Different? Maybe I want to be different.”
“I don’t see why. At least you look like a normal child.” her mom ran her fingers through her daughter’s hair. “You know instead of having your hair down all the time, you should let me brush it and put it in a braid going down your back.” she smiled bobbing her head like a bobble head toy.
Imogen sighed. She felt like she was living a double life; normal, boring Gina Moreno for her mom and dad, and exciting, mysterious Imogen Moreno for herself. She knew her parents did this because they wanted her to fit in. They had high hopes that she would run the hallways and everybody would love her. They bought her whatever they saw was popular nowadays, which explained why she had so many jean jackets and floral prints. She could live with the Jean jackets but the floral print? She was glad she lived a nice distance away from Degrassi, she often styled her hair and played up her uniform on the bus; from Gina Moreno to Imogen Moreno in 15 minutes or less.
