It's a bit scary, being three months pregnant. It means that there will be a life completely identified. I don't mean in the sense where they tell you there's a living thing the size of a peach inside of your stomach, but in the sense of, "you're having a boy or girl!"
And for some reason, knowing whether or not the soon-to-be person will be female or male makes this all the more real. This, being the reality that I'm no longer just some 19 year old girl on tour, but a pre-mommy.
So I watch the room around me fill up with familiar faces as I lay on the seat provided, thinking about these things. When Jada comes in, though, all thoughts slip away while I grin and stretch my arms out for him. He meets me halfway, embracing me in a tight hug before sitting on the side of me that's not occupied by Remington. I'm aware of all of BVB here, along with Canon, Austin, Juju, Palaye, Steph, and Kaylee. I refuse to meet her eyes though.
The doctor comes in, shutting the door shut behind him. He's holding files. "Ms. Anders, correct?" He asks, lifting one eyebrows as he looks at me for confirmation. I nod. "According to the files they faxed from Tucson's finest hospital, you're now three months into your pregnancy." He shuts the folder. "So are you here to find out the sex and do a check-up?" I grin.
"Yes, sir." He smiles back, and places the gel on my already exposed stomach. I don't know about you, but I never understand what the ultrasound screens show, so I just wait for him to tell me as he moves the device around on my belly.
Remington squeezes my hand, which he has encased in both of his, resting against his lips. I see his knee bouncing, showing he's nervous. Even in the waiting room while talking to everyone, he would be messing with his sideburns, his habit for when he's nervous or worried. I glance around the room at everyone's excited faces, and smile. The cool thing about the tour was I met friends that will be lifelong, and will help me with the baby when I need it. I'm not alone.
"Congratulations, Ms. Anders, you're having a boy and a girl!" My head snaps to look at the doctor so fast, I'm pretty sure I gave myself whiplash.
"Um, 'xcuse you?" I blurt, but realize that's a bit rude. "I mean, could you repeat that?" I think I look like a deer in headlights.
The doctor smiles. "You're having twins." I feel Remington's hands tighten on my one hand again, and his knee stops bouncing. I fling my other hand out to Jada's, gripping onto it for support. I feel my breath start to speed up. The tears I didn't know existed spill down my cheeks while I hear the doctor's words ring inside my head.
"T-Twins? Y-you're sure?" I stutter out, and the doctor nods. I start hyperventilating.
"I-I don't think I can--that's not possible!" I manage to blurt. The doctor looks thoughtful.
"Are twins popular in your genetics?" I'm about to respond with a quick 'no' when I remember this: I'm a twin.
Not only do I have a twin, but so does Abuela, and Abuela's sister had twins. Twins are really popular in my genetics. I stay silent.
"Yes, they are. She and our brother are twins, and our grandmother has a twin, who had twins. Twins are very much a constant with the Alvarado family." Yes, my mother's maiden name is Alvarado, which is the name I'll be officially going by once the papers are approved. Not the point right now, though.
"That would explain it, then. Again, congratulations. I'll have your stack of ultrasound pictures out with the nurse working the front desk today. There's only one concern for me, and it's your weight. You're too thin for being three months pregnant with twins. I'll leave a list of foods that'll help with that with the nurse as well. See you for your next check up." When he leaves, I finally let my tears go voluntarily. Remington tried his best to calm me, but I could tell he's a bit freaked too.
Jada sighs, running his hands through my hair. "Blade, it's not a bad thing. I know it's a bit early for kids for you, but Mom did it younger. Heck, she had three kids by fifteen!" I let out a small laugh.
"Don't jinx it please." Everyone lets out a small chuckle. "And I'm happy, I really am. I'm just a bit freaked. These are happy tears," I say, a genuine smile on my face. And it's true: I really am happy. I feel someone replace Remington's hand and look up to see Kaylee. She has a sad look, but also a really excited one.
"I'll babysit anytime." That's all I need to let out another happy sob and fling my arms around my other best friend.
