Roderick was absolutely furious after Elizabeth's abrupt departure, although at the time, he wasn't sure what he was more upset about. The fact that she had taken to cause a scene or the fact that she had placed herself in danger by speaking with Doge in the first place. She was correct in her claim to say that she had the right to speak with whoever she wanted to, but she honestly wasn't thinking of the dangers she was placing herself in by speaking with such people. So while Elizabeth was angry with him, Roderick found himself just as angry with her, or at least, angry with her actions.
Elizabeth was a strong woman, he had never doubted that for a moment since he had first met her. However, even the toughest of women could not survive the Killing Curse and if the Dark Lord ever found out that Elizabeth was conversing with someone across enemy lines, in broad daylight no less, he wouldn't hesitate to kill her. And while she had grown angry with his accusations of her being involved with the Order, what the hell else was he supposed to think when he witnessed Doge walking up to her like they were old friends? He had a feeling that it simply wasn't to exchange book information, especially since Doge had to know who Elizabeth was, he had to know that she was married to a Lestrange, even if he wasn't aware that it was the Crow.
But what if he was, what if Doge actually knew? The paranoid thoughts ran through Roderick's head as he just continued to stand in the bookshop long after Elizabeth had left, as he had been left in a stupor. He was beginning to wonder if Elizabeth had ratted out his location to the Order. Yet, he immediately scolded himself shortly after, never imagining in a million years that Elizabeth would betray him in such ways. The problem was, Roderick needed answers, and he needed them to come from his wife above all people.
His mind was conflicted and as he came out of his own shock, he was able to see that all eyes within the bookshop were on him, especially after Elizabeth's little episode. He decided to gather all the books that Elizabeth had slammed to the floor before she stormed out and then made his way to the counter to purchase them. Despite the day taking a terrible turn, he knew that Elizabeth wanted and needed the books and she must have been awfully upset to leave them behind in the wake of her storm.
But to make matters worse as Roderick was trying to calmly make his way out of the bookshop, the witch behind the counter was giving him a dirty look, while the rest of the patrons inside were whispering behind his back. As if they had any justification to be judging his relationship with Elizabeth, Roderick was already in a foul mood, but they had all pushed him past his boiling point within a matter of seconds.
He turned to face the people behind him abruptly, some of them gasped and backed away quickly, unsure of what he was going to do.
"If you would all so kindly remove your rather large noses from the business that does not pertain to you, I would gladly appreciate it!"
Throwing down the necessary money to pay for all the books, Roderick didn't even allow the witch behind the counter to bag them up as he snatched the bag from her hands, shoved the books inside and left the shop, leaving it all in pure silence for a few minutes even after he was long gone.
