Life had taken a turn for the better temporarily for Roderick and Elizabeth ever since his position had possibly been ratted out to the Order. He wasn't called in for any sort of mission as an entire investigation had been launched to figure out who had compromised Roderick's position. Fortunately, with the blame falling on the shoulder of Peter Pettigrew, he had become the Dark Lord's new servant in order to prove himself that he was not the traitor within the group. While Roderick pitied him in some ways, he didn't in others, simply because it was giving him the much-needed freedom he wanted to share with his wife, not to mention, Peter had turned his back on all of his friends, there was little for Roderick to sympathise with in that case.
Roderick had planned a surprise for Elizabeth, hoping to smooth the tension over in the manor caused by the most recent days. Their spats since the start of their marriage were normally brought upon Roderick's work and since that wasn't getting in the way, he wanted them to actually have a nice day. He had a nice day trip to Diagon Alley planned, where he was just going to tell her to pick out as many books as she wished from the bookshop. She had been wanting several books pertaining to healing practices and herbal remedies but had not gotten around to purchasing them as of yet.
So he was offering to spoil her because he knew very well that Elizabeth deserved it with everything she had been put through and was still currently putting up with. He had to admit, he was excited for a nice day out of the manor, just spent in her company because he felt like they were always so confined to their home. It was almost becoming like a prison to them and there was no telling whenever someone would show up unannounced, invading their home life.
That very morning, Roderick entered the bedroom after he had been up much earlier, getting dressed and ready so they could get an early start. He wandered over to Elizabeth's side of the bed and sat down, watching as she scrunched up her face in her sleep as the bed moved from his weight. Placing his hand out, he allowed it to come and rest on her shoulder before shaking her gently to stir her from her slumber.
"Beth...Beth...come on now, darling, it's time to get up," he called to her in a soft tone. Due to her light sleeping, Elizabeth's eyes fluttered seconds later as she stirred, eventually opening both of them to peer out at him. Instantly, as she saw him sitting beside her and realising that she hadn't woken up on her own, she sat up in a panic and Roderick absolutely hated that.
Whenever Elizabeth didn't wake up on her own or whenever she awoke alone in the bed, her mind automatically had her believe that something was wrong. However, each time, Roderick had to calm her down and explain that everything was alright, that she was safe.
"Beth, it's alright, it's only me," he said to her, " everything is fine."
He could hear the loud sigh of relief and the embarrassment reach her face as she turned red and looked away.
"Sorry, I just thought-"
She rubbed at her face, unwilling to continue confessing what she had thought, simply because they both knew what she had been thinking. Of course, Roderick couldn't blame her, he blamed himself and other Death Eaters for leaving her so paranoid that she couldn't wake up without her heart being sent into panic mode.
