The two seemed to believe that they were both experiencing some sort of dream as they stood in front of each other. Elizabeth was just stuck in the state with coming to terms that it had been over a decade since she had last seen him. It felt like yesterday when he had left the manor and everything had gone to hell, and yet, she could clearly see that the Roderick in front of her was not the same man that had left. Instead, Elizabeth could see that Azkaban that taken its harsh toll on her husband as he appeared paler and he wouldn't even look her in the eyes for more than a second at a time.

He kept his eyes down, focused on the floor between them like a submissive animal. She didn't understand, but Roderick was terrified of her reaction. They had already confirmed that they were standing before each other, but he feared that she was going to start yelling at him now that she recognised him. Telling him to get out of her home and telling him to never come back. He wouldn't hold it against her if that was her reaction, but he dreaded the moment when it was going to happen.

However, as Elizabeth stared at him, she could only feel her heart breaking at the time. Roderick had always been tall and thin in the frame, but as he stood before her, he appeared incredibly underweight as his clothes hung off of his body. His face was caked in dirt and grime, as showers or bathing probably were not a priority for the prisoners, especially for ones labelled as Death Eaters. They were probably given no sense of what many took for granted. The dark bags under his eyes spoke volumes and the way his hands twitched at the slightest sounds taking place outside made Elizabeth frown even further.

"Roderick," she whispered his name, " you...you...you're home."

There was relief in her voice but Roderick couldn't hear it, he kept still as she took slow steps towards him. She didn't want to want to alarm, but all she really wanted to do was hold him. When there was no longer any distance between them, Elizabeth reached out both of her hands and brought them to touch the sides of his face gently. She watched him flinch and shudder under her touch, but she forced him to look up at her.

"Roderick," she called to him again in a soft tone, " Roderick, it's alright. I'm not going to hurt you. Everything is fine, you're home now. You're free and you're safe."

Suddenly, his head jerked up causing her to jump slightly but he seemed to be the one that was surprised. In fact, he looked to be in a state of shock as he met her gaze and held it. It made Elizabeth think she had said something wrong.

"What's wrong?" she questioned. "Did I do something? I..I...I'm sorry-"

But Roderick shook his head, she had done nothing wrong, but he didn't understand her reaction. "Why are you being so nice to me, Beth? Why don't you hate me? You should be yelling at me right now. You should be cursing my name, telling me to go to the darkest depths of hell and-"

Unable to process why he would think such things, Elizabeth's hand quickly shot out and covered his mouth. "Why in the world would I tell you any of those things? I'm so glad you're home! I don't want you to anywhere, I would never want you to go to hell or anything of the sort!"
