Despite the overwhelmingly good response of her pregnancy, the happiness was not meant to last very long as Elizabeth was informed that Roderick did have to return for the task of spying. Since the Order had not reacted or made any note of the previous attack, he had no further excuse to remain at home. Although before he left, he promised her that things were going to get better, somehow and someway, he was going to make things right for them. He promised their baby as he leaned his head against their stomach that he was going to do everything in his power to make sure that they grew up in an environment that was nothing like how their parents grew up in.
It brought a smile to Elizabeth's face and even brought her to laugh, but she couldn't help the sinking feeling in her chest when it came time for him to leave. It seemed he was debating whether to stay behind or go, but eventually, the latter won out in his mind as he figured the consequences would be bigger if he didn't leave. Before he left, he told Elizabeth to try and not worry as the stress wouldn't be good on the baby, but of course, it was much easier said than done.
She sat in the middle of the bed, chewing down her nails while she waited for him to return. However, with every passing second and as it grew later and later, she grew worried that something had gone terribly wrong during his scouting. She knew the other Death Eaters were remaining close by in case any Order members came upon them as they suspected. But she wasn't sure what the hold up was, normally if he didn't come upon any information within a few hours, he was allowed to leave.
She was beginning to think that the Order had gotten involve and there had problem been a confrontation of sorts. Horrible thoughts of what could have happened raced through her mind leaving her almost bite her fingers off. Elizabeth knew that just sitting there was not going to settle her mind at all. She would probably run herself ragged and restless until he came home and she wasn't even sure if she could wait any longer with how hard her heart was pounding in her chest.
Eyeing her wand that was resting on the nightstand beside the bed, Elizabeth bit down on her lower lip as she contemplated a plan in her head. Suddenly, she pushed herself up and snatched her wand up in her hand before making her way out of the bedroom.
"They say it's a man's world, but it's really only like that because women keep saving them!"
Initially, Roderick believed that his assignment was to gain information that evening, but he quickly realised that he was just a plant in an even bigger mission. He had to remain perched in a tree, knowing that he was being watched by other Death Eaters. They had it so that when the member of the Order arrived they would ambush them but Roderick was beginning to think that the Order had grown suspicious of their spying at the last minute. He assumed that they had moved locations because no one was inside the building that they had been suspected, it been vacant and dark for hours.
He was hoping that someone would call it a night soon and he would be able to leave and return home to Elizabeth. Ever since he had received the news of expecting their first child, Roderick had been filled with indescribable happiness. Yet, their celebration was certainly being meddled with since he had "duties" to fulfil to the Dark Lord. He hated leaving Elizabeth alone, especially after she had delivered the news to him.
