[Chapter Eight]

The morning of the wedding, Roderick found himself in the Lestrange Manor, passing back and forth in his bedroom with a cigarette in hand, taking a few drags every few seconds to calm his nerves. But even his normal smoking couldn't relax the racing feeling in his chest, nothing really could. The funny thing was, Roderick didn't find himself nervous with the idea of marrying Elizabeth, in fact, he was looking forward to the moment where he said  "I do" committing the rest of his life to the woman.

He couldn't picture himself with anyone else, not that he was trying at all. Since the two had started talking again, giving a real chance to dating and getting to know one another, Elizabeth had proven herself to be far more than he ever expected. In all honesty, he was expecting her to be like all the others they had grown up, the same mindset that almost seemed scripted. Yet, despite being raised in similar households, Elizabeth had made it very clear that she did not want to live by the rules or live the lifestyle that their families had forced upon them for so long. And with her truly being honest with him, telling him how she felt about certain matters, Roderick realised, he wanted the same things as her.

He had come to the conclusion that he no longer wanted to live as a Death Eater serving the Dark Lord. Nothing good had come of it and it only left Roderick in pain and Elizabeth stressing over him constantly. She could see it, every time she looked into his eyes, Roderick wanted out, however, they had to be more than careful when it came to handling the situation. Elizabeth worried that the Dark Lord would become suspicious and hurt Roderick, breaking the man down with fear and pain to keep him as a follower.

While Roderick's worries remained with the likes of Evan. He could definitely see the man going to the Dark Lord and causing problems for the couple. He didn't want to believe that Evan would turn against his little sister and throw her at the feet of the Dark Lord, however, Death Eaters were known to be extremely loyal. A running joke among them that they all should have been sorted into Hufflepuff.

Anyone who opposed the views of the Dark Lord, family or not, were to be subjected to the man's punishments and torturous ways. Roderick couldn't bear the thought of Elizabeth going through anywhere near the same pain he had endured for his mistake. So far, everything was going according to plan, people were arriving as he could hear outside of his room and there seemed to be no upsets.

He only hoped that it would remain that way.

As he was adjusting his tie, Roderick heard a knock at the door, he assumed that it was one of Elizabeth's aunts or uncles fussing over him taking his time as they constantly reminded him that the time was nearing for the ceremony to start.

"Come in," he called with a slight eye roll, wishing they would just leave him be in the final moments. However, as the bedroom door opened, Roderick watched through his mirror as his older brothers walked in. They were both in dress robes, looking fully prepared to attend the wedding, although Roderick didn't look happy at all to see them. An awkward tension fell over them like a heavy blanket attempting to smother a fire but Roderick said nothing to them as he turned back to the mirror to finish adjusting his tie.
