Roderick had difficulty falling asleep, in fear, that once he woke up again that he would discover that it was all a dream. Every time he managed to close his eyes, he found himself back in his cell, leaving him to wake up in a panic. He would turn over and frequently check to make sure that Elizabeth was still beside him in bed. It was an indescribable feeling as to what he felt, seeing his wife of ten years resting beside him. The bed was warm and soft, and Elizabeth's body was pressed against his after she had fallen asleep.

The shower had worked to set his mind at ease, especially after Elizabeth joined him. The hot water had been soothing but to hold Elizabeth in his arms under the running water had left him unwilling to actually step out of the tub later on. However, they couldn't possible spend the entire night in there and it was obvious that Elizabeth was tired. Despite being excited that he was home, she had worked a long shift at St Mungo's earlier in the day, allowing her to fall asleep as soon as they got into bed.

She made no noise while she slept and the flat itself was tucked in a small corner, leaving it so incredibly quiet. To Roderick, it made it even more difficult for him to fall asleep as he was so accustomed to the sound of howling winds that whistled through the prison walls or the sound of the crashing waves against the rocks outside. He didn't want to admit it, but it was borderline disturbing with how quiet everything was.

As he turned over to look at Elizabeth once again, he could see that her hair had fallen over in her face, hiding her away. It brought a small smile to his face as he reached his hand out and brushed it away gently. Her expression was peaceful in her sleep, a hint of a smile on her lips still as perhaps whatever she was dreaming about made her happy. While Roderick was thrilled that she was happy, he was still bewildered that Elizabeth had managed to stay so happy. The way she smiled at him and was willing to accept him back in her life so quickly, left him baffled. With everything that had happened when he left and while he had been gone, he still waited for the moment where she blamed him, but it never came.

Yet, Roderick couldn't help but blame himself, especially after what he witnessed in the shower earlier. Initially, he had been thrilled when she came to join him as he scooted over to allow her to stand under the warm water with him. He moved to hold onto her tightly, his fingers trailing over her smooth, wet skin slowly. However, as they trailed down the middle part of her back, he began to trace over uneveness in her skin. It wasn't just simple imperfections in her skin, they were scars that he felt. Ones that hadn't been there before he had been imprisoned.

He couldn't help his reaction as he immediately pulled back to examine her, to see that there were scars on her stomach and down her back. They had faded in colour over time, but they were still hard to ignore as he looked them over in horror.

"Beth?" he blinked several times to make sure he wasn't seeing things. "Beth, what are these scars? Are they..."

His voice trailed off as soon as the sudden realisation struck him. He remembered Elizabeth's story of being struck twice by curses unleashed by her own brother when she had been pursued in the attack. Of course, it had been dark magic, the only reason that Zakari couldn't hear and even she had been marked by the attack as well, left with reminders.
