The amount of pain and guilt that swirled in Roderick's chest, left the man feeling extremely heavy as he left the manor, with his newest assignment. Whether it was Elizabeth's reaction or the fact that he was supposed to be overlooking the home that belonged to the Bones family, he felt sick to his stomach.

He was tired, he didn't want to be part of Lord Voldemort's plan anymore and yet, he didn't know a way out that didn't involve him getting hurt or worse, Elizabeth. They could run away, but what quality of life would they live constantly on the run? And eventually, if they were tracked down, there would be no mercy granted upon them. Elizabeth remained insistent on going to the Order of the Phoenix, but Roderick didn't see that as a good idea either.

He was sure that there would be some form of help given, but his mind went to Peter Pettigrew and how he had turned on his friends, what if there were other members that played for both sides that Roderick wasn't aware of? If word got back to the Dark Lord, Roderick couldn't imagine the horrors that would come their way. There seemed to be so many risks that outweighed the benefits and he didn't know how to get that point across to Elizabeth.

She simply wanted him to stop leaving on the Dark Lord's assignments or tell the others that he refused. And as much as he wanted to listen to her and stay with her, it would be foolish to do such a thing. A refusal on his behalf would result in a high price and that would lead to a harsh punishment that Roderick wasn't sure if they could escape it with their lives. He understood that Elizabeth wasn't fully aware of everything that took place within the circle of Death Eaters or how the sides were playing out back and forth, but he wished she wouldn't look at him the way she did before he left.

Her eyes watered with the ultimate betrayal that he was actually agreeing to stalk outside of the Bones' home in order to gain information. She looked at him the say way she looked at the other Death Eaters when they were in her presence, in pure disgust. Elizabeth had to know that he wasn't like them, she had to know that it did not bring him the joy to be perched outside of the home as he was currently, but it didn't stop her from looking at him that way. It left him crumbling in place, as all he could think of was the fact that he had destroyed all the trust and faith she had placed in him.

That he was simply no better than the rest.

Before had left the home, she left to the bedroom and made a point to slam the door so that the sound echoed through the manor. As he approached the door, he could hear her lock it, and while he was more than capable of using magic to open it, he took the hint and granted her the space she obviously wanted from him. He did call through the door though, tell her that he was incredibly sorry for bringing her such pain and that he would be back as soon as possible. But she didn't respond and Roderick knew, that while he hadn't physically hurt her like the others, he had caused her the worst pain with his choices.

Currently resting on an old dead branch of a tree, Roderick felt incredibly tempted to fall out of form and reveal himself right then and there. He would allow the Bones to report him to the Ministry so that he wouldn't have to suffer through the idea of being the Dark Lord's lackey anymore. But that also meant that he would be leaving Elizabeth behind but he couldn't do that to her. If he was gone without warning, the Death Eaters would pounce on her like fresh prey or she would have to go on the run.
