Roderick left.

He was gone.

And Elizabeth couldn't wrap her head around any of it.

What felt like hours and days after Roderick had left the home to turn himself into the Ministry, Elizabeth seemed to be stuck in a strong daze of swirling emotions. He left her on the sofa and that was where she remained, crying into a throw pillow until it became soaked with her tears. Eventually, she couldn't bring herself to cry anymore, the feverish feeling wouldn't leave as her head ached terribly, her sinuses were plugged and her eyes burned with every blinking motion. Every so often, a small hiccup would pass through her lips and Elizabeth could only keep telling herself that she was alone.

Roderick had advised her that once he left that she go straight to Ollivander's for her own safety. She didn't agree to it, simply because she didn't agree to Roderick leaving her in the first place. She was waiting and hoping that Roderick would quickly change his mind and come back to her. She was counting on him to return and possibly apologise for ever taking such an idea into consideration. But the more Elizabeth thought about it, she knew it was foolish to count on him returning.

After all, Roderick was a noble man, even if he didn't see it, he would never go back on his word.

Deep down, Elizabeth knew he was right, if he didn't turn himself in, he would never be able to live a comfortable life, knowing that he was able to walk free with his crimes trailing behind him. Perhaps that could work for some, but not for Roderick, even though she believed his mistakes were justified. Since the time they were young, they had been told to believe such horrible things when it came to the world around them. Roderick had been recruited and if not forced, highly encouraged by those around him that were much older and held a strong influence on his actions.

Yes, he had made poor decisions, but it wasn't Roderick who failed himself, it was the world that had failed him. His family had failed to protect him starting from his birth as they instead took to throwing him to the wolves. Elizabeth knew the scenario all too well because she had grown up with it too. Having a family that claimed to care about them, when really all they ever cared about seemed to be blood purity and their status in the wizarding society.

Peering down at her stomach that was barely even swollen at the time, she placed her hand over it, trying to contain the onset of nausea that was overwhelming on top of everything else. Roderick's reasoning of leaving her, also fell on providing a better life for their child, knowing that he didn't want his son or daughter growing up with the knowledge that his father was nothing more than a pathetic Death Eater. She respected that more than anything, but at the same time, she couldn't wrap her head around what she was supposed to tell their child when the time came.

All of that would be left upon her shoulders to deal with and just knowing that Roderick wasn't going to be there to offer his own explanation pained her more than anything. How was she supposed to explain to their child that their father was not a bad person but then proceed to tell them that he was locked away in Azkaban? Unable to process it, she decided not to think of it right away, considering she still had time before that time would come. She still needed to get through the pregnancy and she would be doing that alone.
