With his new freedom, Roderick didn't find it as sweet as he anticipated it to be. Despite being able to stretch his wings in the literal sense and actually move about somewhere outside of a cell, he still felt quite trapped in place. Flying around and around in the same vicinity, Roderick came to the same conclusion as he did earlier, he had no idea where to go. A thought crossed his mind whether to return to the Lestrange Manor, knowing that it would be empty, however, as he thought about all the haunting memories that had taken place inside the home, he quickly decided against it. If this was to be his fresh start at a second chance, he had to start off on the right foot and returning to where it all began seemed like a poor choice.
Of course, his mind wandered to Elizabeth and Garrick, wondering if Elizabeth was still staying at the wand shop or perhaps living on her own. Either way, the idea of confronting her after so long left him feeling quite ill. He wanted nothing more than to see her, but he feared her reaction. What would she have to say to him after all these years, after all, she had been through? What if she was happy on her own and just seeing him would only bring up horrible memories? There was a chance that he would go to the wand shop and only see Garrick there, but was he willing to risk it?
And yet, there was that one though, the one that lingered on his mind since the Ministry woman had announced it. He was still technically married to Elizabeth and that blew his mind beyond anything. After a decade's time, she had yet to fully separate from him and Roderick couldn't understand why.
Unable to really process much, overwhelmed just by being outside again, taking in the fresh air and all the noise that seemed so unfamiliar to him, Roderick brought himself to settle in a tree near the outskirts of Diagon Alley to contemplate on what he was supposed to do. In his mind, he couldn't contemplate anything beyond the idea that Elizabeth hated him with every part of her being. For her to be abandoned, attacked, and then to lose their child, left to bear all the grief on her own, how could she still love him? He could remember how much she begged him to stay with her and to come up with another idea, but Roderick wasn't hearing any of it at the time.
If Elizabeth didn't hate him in those moments, Roderick was convinced that she was incapable of feeling hate.
Tired and irritated by the sunlight that was practically blinding him as he tried to readjust to his surroundings, Roderick just felt like collapsing. Transforming into his animagus form after so long had left him feeling quite disoriented and all the movement in Diagon Alley was making him dizzy. He had to be somewhat thankful to be in crow form as he was certain that if he was attempting to walk around, people would be utterly frightened by his appearance and possibly his smell.
Azkaban had taken its toll on the young man, mentally and physically, he could still feel the weight of the prison sentence on his shoulders long after leaving his cell. He was glad to be free but Roderick felt confused as to how he was going to reenter the society he had left behind so long ago. The last time he roamed the streets, he had been labelled a Death Eater, people were only going to know his name for his crimes and nothing else.
