I watched the wind funnel collapse in on its self and sighed, wiping a bead of sweat off my forehead. I was sitting on a rug in the yard of Akashi's, no our, house. I had been practising my power over the elements while he was away. A shadow passed over me and I looked up to see Murasakibara, his usual bag of treats in his hand, staring down at me.
"How's it going Kurochin?"
He sat down beside me, still towering above me even seated.
"I can't seem to make it very powerful. I supposedly have this great power that sent people flying away but I can only make a funnel of air as tall as my waist or push some scraps a few meters."
"Hmm, I am no expert on how exorcists use their powers but they use words and sayings to make the elements do as they bid. Have you tried speaking out loud?"
I shrugged and squared my shoulders. Calling on the small tingling feeling I got that was my power I drew a thread of it and held my hand out.
"Spin air!"
Wind rushed past me, blowing my hair and tugging on my clothes as a large whirlwind of air formed in front of me. It grew larger and larger, until it was taller than the house and gathering dirt, leaves and loose objects into its funnel. I began to feel it tugging at me and I slid across the ground a short distance until hands wrapped around my waist and Murasakibara pulled me close, his feet planted firmly on the ground.
"Might be a good idea to stop it before you get sucked away too."
As soon as the thought crossed my mind the funnel faded away and the rubbish crashed to the ground. My eye sight spun and I sagged in Murasakibara's arms. He sunk back to the ground and laid me on the rug that he had managed to keep from being swept away.
"I guess it just takes some practice."
I covered my eyes with my arm as I waited for my dizzy spell to pass. Practice he said. I didn't know what I was doing, this was all random guess work. I needed a teacher but I hadn't heard from Kagami since that afternoon in the alley.
"Do you know who my father was?"
Murasakibara paused from shoving a chip into his mouth to look down at me. I peaked at him from underneath my arm to see his reaction. His face, as usual gave away no clues.
"No, I don't know if anyone really does. There are a few rumours about, the one thing we do know for sure is that he was of the winged variety."
"You mean I could fly?"
"That I don't know. As I said it's all rumours and even in your first life where you had all your powers you didn't have wings."
"Hmm. Well what do I have from the demons? Akashi said the way of my rebirth must be from my demon blood but what else did I attain?"
Murasakibara shoved the chip in his mouth and chewed a frown on his face.
"You are asking some tough questions today, Kurochin. You should ask Midorima, he is smarter than me, don't tell him I said that though."
I giggled and sat up, my dizziness finally having passed.
"Is there anything?"
"Well, you healed quickly. Small wounds healed within moments and you never got sick. Large injuries seemed to take time and fatal ones will kill you. Most demons can regenerate limbs but we haven't dared test that. Poison would leave you bedridden for a few hours but didn't kill you. You have our glimmer too."
"Glimmer? What's that?"
"It can be used in two way. Make you invisible or make people, mostly humans, take notice of you. In days gone demons would use the glimmer to attract their prey. As you may have noticed when in human forms demons are beautiful. That's not me being vain but a fact. Ever notice women throwing themselves at you?"
