Chapter 27

Akashi's Pov

"Stay down!"

I pushed Kuroko down under the table, ignoring his protests that he could fight too. I wasn't going to risk losing him.

"Momoi, Mitobe stay with him! Everyone else with me!"

I walked towards the exit with the rest of the clan leaders following me. I looked over in shock to see Kagami walk next to me and the council members merge in with the demons.

"We will fight as well. If there is a chance we can stop him or at least hinder his efforts we will."

"I can't guarantee the safety of the councillors. I will have my hands full with Haizaki, his is stronger than ever before."

"Don't worry demon, we can look after ourselves."

I watched as they pulled their hoods up and weapons appeared in their hands. I smiled to myself and headed out the doors, I didn't think our alliance would be tested so early.

"Let me speak to him first. Believe me I want him dead the most out of everyone here but if we can find out what he has planned for Kuroko, all the better."

I looked back at the table to where I could see Momoi kneeling beside the bluenette talking to him as Mitobe held his arm, stopping him from getting to his feet. I saw his shoulders bow in defeat and he nodded his head. I smiled, at least I didn't have to worry about him while I dealt with the silver haired demon. Said demon was standing in the yard waiting for us, a dark fog spread out around him.

"What is that?"

I held out my arm stopping everyone in their tracks.

"Stay back. It could be a portal to where his army is or it could be poisonous."

I took a few steps forward and looked up in shock as Kagami moved up next to me.

"What are you doing?"

"Do you think I could really face Kuroko if I let you go alone?"

"You've gone soft Kagami."

"Shut up. I told you it's for Kuroko, it's not like I'm worried about you."

We stopped a few metres away from both our allies and Haizaki who was standing there calmly, his long silver hair blowing in the wind and his eyes searching the people behind us.

"I don't see Kuro-chan anywhere."

"Like I would let you anywhere near him."

Haizaki looked at me, his mouth twisted in a smirk.

"You still think to keep him from me?"

"I will always keep him safe from you."

"What do you want demon?"

Haizaki turned to Kagami, a look of pure rage over his features.

"Humans," he spat in disgust.

"Even worse than that, exorcists. Have you no shame they are our enemies!"

"Not all the time. They hunt those that disobey the treaties, who harm humans for fun, or to feed when there is no need to anymore."

"They are cattle Akashi! Simply food, nothing else."

I looked at the silver haired man before me, his wings quivering with rage and his eyes wide with madness. He was crazy. He had lost his mind with thoughts of vengeance and power.

"It is that thinking that drove Tetsuya away."

At the mention of the bluenette he stopped his movements and stilled as he glared at me.
