Chapter 9

Akashi didn't return that day, and not the next one either. Kagami had taken to walking the perimeter of the barrier around the house and told me to stay inside. His caution and the fact that I had tried calling Akashi over and over to no avail had me worried. I looked out the window, staring at the sky that sparkled. I hated that sky. I felt like a trapped animal. I knew it was there to protect me but I also feared that I was cornered, nowhere to run should we be attacked. I knew Kagami thought the same. I had seen him glaring at Akashi's feather and then outside at the barrier. We hadn't tried working on my powers since neither of us was in the right mind set. We didn't talk any more about Haizaki either. I had woken up screaming last night with a dream of him and Kagami had to calm me down. I felt bad because he had stayed by my side all night and I could see bags under his eyes today. We were sitting down to eat lunch when the phone that Akashi had given me rang. I all but jumped over the table to reach the phone on the bench.

"Akashi where have you been?"

"Tetsuya I am sorry but I need you to put Kagami on the phone."

I felt a twinge of annoyance but pushed it down, Akashi had sounded breathless and I could hear the sound of rushing wind in the background. Kagami took the phone with a frown on his face. I couldn't hear what Akashi said but I watched as Kagami's eyes widened and he cursed under his breath.

"How long?"

He turned away from me and mumbled into the phone and I couldn't hear what was being said. A few moments passed of him talking back and then he moved. He jammed the phone in his pocket and grabbed a bag from the front of the door. I recognized it as his duffle bag that he took with him everywhere. Then he was by my side, grabbing my arm and leading me out the back door. I struggled to keep pace with him as he ran to the back of the yard.

"Slow down Kagami, what's going on?"

It was then I heard a large thump and I glanced up to see the sky around us flash red before I heard a crack and it looked like the air above us had split.

"Damn it! That's the barrier breaking. We are under attack and need to run!"

We reached the fence and he boosted me up. I clambered over it and dropped to the other side awkwardly. Kagami simply grabbed it and leapt over it gracefully, landing beside me. He took my arm again and led me down the street. I glanced behind me and sure enough I couldn't see the sparkle anymore but it was then I noticed a group of people standing at the front gate. I was too far away to make anything about them but one of the figures near the front turned and my body went cold. Whoever it was, they were staring right at me and I could feel blood lust in its gaze.

"Run Kuroko, they are here for you!"

Akashi's Pov *an hour earlier*

I stared at the paper work in front of me and tried not to sigh. I was sitting in a large room at a conference table, the seats taken up by the leaders of the various clans underneath me. Aomine, Kise and Midorima took up the chairs on either side of me, one was left empty on my right, it belonged to Murasakibara who wasn't back from his mission to the nomads of his clan yet. Five other people sat at the table. Mostly in human form, they were the rest of my clan members. Four were men, one lanky and almost transparent, the other dark hair and eyes that glowed in the darkness, his fangs biting into his bottom lip as he stared at the paper, the one next to Kise with hair that seemed to look like gas floating about his head and the last man sat beside Midorima, his arms and side of his neck covered in scales. The last person in the room was the only woman and she had snakes for hair.

"Riko, your eyes are good what do you make of this?"

The snake haired woman looked at the fanged man to her right.
