Chapter 34

I stared down at the still form that use to be my father, my whole body cold. Dimly I was aware of yelling and talons slashing around me but I could only stare down at the pale face of my father. This couldn't be real.

"Kuroko."

I was pulled out of my reverie to look into dark eyes under sharp eyebrows. Kagami clutched his chest and the hand on my shoulder tightened.

"I feel hot," he gasped.

Until he had spoken I realised I was too. My body was heating up and I felt like I was about to burn up. With a groan I bent over my father's body, hugging myself and gasping for air. Kagami also keeled over and rolled into a ball.

I am sorry for the pain you are feeling, this is because I fought to stay alive for this long.

My eyes snapped open, looking down at my father whose voice I had heard. He was still unmoved and I realised I had heard his voice in my mind, not with my ears.

"What's happening? How are we talking?"

You're getting all the power I had left. Normally you would have acquired this slowly but I held out and now you are getting a whole lot of it too fast for your body to handle.

I felt a slight pressure on my head and touched a hand to my forehead, it had felt like one last kiss from my father.

"Go and be with mother, I love you, goodbye."

I felt his presence fade and the burning feeling intensified. I heard Kagami cry out in pain and looked over at him in shock. He was squirming around on the ground, face screwed up in pain. This was too much power for him, I would have to take it all. I reached over to him and grabbed his wrist, creating a rune to lessen the bond between us. Instantly the power that had been leaking off to him launched into me with so much force I bit my tongue, drawing blood. His eyes opened and my crawled over to me.

"Take it off Kuroko, you can't handle this by yourself, it's too much it could kill you."

He grabbed my shoulders and I sagged against his chest.

"I can't risk you to this either."

I heard a pained cry and looked up, my heart thumping in my chest to see Akashi on his knees, blood covering his arm as he held it, looking up at Haizaki who was smiling in triumph, hand raised in another attack.

"Sei-kun!"

Akashi's Pov

I was no match for Haizaki, he had spent his life fighting and preparing for this war while I had let myself get sloppy.

"You grew weak crow, all because of your love for that thing!"

I held my bleeding arm and glared at him.

"Don't you dare about him like that! Just because he chose me instead of you!"

His face twisted in anger and he raised his hand, ready for the final blow.

"You will die first, and then I will kill him again. When he is reborn, you won't be around to save him and I will have what is mine!"

His hand moved towards my throat and I heard my little blue angels voice scream my name. Suddenly Haizaki was thrown off his feet, flames singing the air between us. We both turned to see Kuroko on his feet, his hand raised.

"How can you do that during the eclipse and with all that mercury?"

Flames began to flicker along Kuroko's body as he glared at Haizaki with a tear stained face and the band around his ankle disintegrated. The wounds on his body healed in an instant as the flames danced around him.
