I closed my eyes as I heard a large the sound of severing flesh and whimpered. However an inhuman screech echoed through the alley and my eyes sprung open to revel a surprising sight. Kagami was laying, unhurt and staring up at the demon who had been about to kill him clutching his arm which had been severed at the elbow. A hooded figure stood next to him, twin scythes in his hands. He spun and with one quick slash he decapitated him. He turned towards where I was lying with the demon sitting on top of me and I saw a flash of silver hair underneath the hood. My body turned cold. Silver hair. He moved towards us and I struggled to get clear of the demon on top of me, sweat running down my face. No, no, no. I have to get away. The demon on top of me stood up, grabbing my injured hand and pulled me up in front of him making me scream in pain as blood ran down my arm and dripped on the pavement. My scream stopped the hooded figure as I sobbed, my arm trembling with pain.

"I don't know who you are," hissed the demon, his grip tightening on my wound as I cried out.

"But this prey is mine, you can have the exorcist."

The hooded man cocked his head and I saw silver eyes flash in the darkness.

"There is a ninety-nine percent chance that I will be faster than you."

The demon frowned, obviously confused and I took the opportunity to yank my arm. The blood coating my arm made it slippery and I was able to slide out of his grasp and stumble away.

"Get back here!"

I took a few steps when I felt a hand on the back of my hair and cried out. I heard the same sound of slicing flesh and suddenly something heavy thumped into my back and I was carted forward. The breath was knocked out of me and I coughed and spluttered. The weight was lifted off me and I turned around to see the hooded man kick the headless corpse of the demon off me. He then reached towards me and I screamed in fear.

"Don't touch him!"

The hooded man froze, his hand inches away from my face.

"Oh, of course, my appearance. I should have looked ahead and noticed this reaction."

He stood straight and pushed the hood back from his head and I flinched at the silver hair.

"I am not Shogo Haizaki."

I stared at him then and noticed that he was different from the man in my nightmares. His hair was more grey then the striking platinum colour of the demon who haunted me and his eyes were a cloudy grey. He reached towards me and grabbed my uninjured hand, helping me to my feet.

"My name is Chihiro Mayuzumi."

He let me go and reached down to grab a jacket off the ground, shaking dust of it. It was then I realised that the demons he had killed had turned to ash. He handed me the jacket.

"Wrap your arm in that, we need to leave before more show up."

He grabbed the shirt off the ground and moved over to Kagami where he pressed it against his shoulder and inspected his leg.

"I'm going to have to put this back in place and wait until we get home to properly treat it."

Kagami nodded and bit down on his own shirt, his face pale. I flinched as there was a loud crack followed by Kagami's muffled screams. Mayuzumi then picked Kagami up in a fireman's hold and led the way out of the alley. He took us over to a small black car and laid Kagami, now passed out, on the back seat as I got in the front seat, my arm tingling oddly. Mayuzumi jumped in the driver seat and started the car. I glanced down the alley as we passed, the only evidence of what had transpired were some scattered clothing, a couple dark puddles of blood and ash blowing away in the wind.
