Chapter 28

"It must have been hard for you."

I curled up closer to Akashi as I looked up at the stars. We were lying on a fold out chair on the balcony at the hotel we were staying at since the house had been destroyed. Kagami had apologized over and over again but Akashi had simply waved his concern away, it was just a house. So here we sat, in one of many hotels that he owned and relaxing in each other's arms. I had just come out of the shower and was wrapped up in a large fluffy dressing gown while Akashi rubbed my back.

"Yes, but I had to say goodbye properly."

I pulled his arm up to my eyes and moved it back and forward, staring at the rune on his wrist.

"I need to go and see my father. Can you take me?"

"It's too dangerous to go out now. Not with Haizaki so close."

I sat up and pouted down at him. He reached up and traced my bottom lip sending shivers through my body.

"We will go tomorrow, once Ryota and Daiki have made sure the path is clear."

"But Sei-kun"- he stopped my complaint mid-sentence with a kiss. He pushed me down and moved so he was straddling me, his hands slipping inside my dressing gown. I turned away, my face red. He simply grabbed my chin and kissed me again, his tongue slipping in and quickly taking the lead. My body was heating up, his hands leaving sparks as they touched me when suddenly there was a knock on the door. Akashi bowed his head and sighed in expiration while I pulled my gown back on. He quickly pecked me on the cheek, "we will continue this later."

He got up and moved to answer the door while I sat there, putting my cold hands to my face to calm myself down.

"Kagami, should you really be up and about after using so much power?"

At the mention of the tall exorcist I moved inside to see Akashi letting Kagami, Momoi and Mitobe into the room. Before he closed the door I could see two other men standing guard in the hall. Kagami was pale and sat on the chair. I rushed to his side, looking at his power with my new sight. The fire still raged and he looked refreshed, unlike before when the fire was just a flicker after he exhausted himself.

"What's wrong Kagami?"

He turned his eyes to me and took a moment to focus.

"Ah, Kuroko. The exorcists have elected a saint at last."

"Then why the long face?"

Akashi leant against the closed door while Momoi seemed to jump around in excitement.

"The saint has a ninety-nine percent synchronisation with their power."

I looked at the pink haired exorcist in shock.

"Impossible," whispered Midorima who had come in from the other bedroom. He was drying his hair and before the door closed I could see Takao asleep in the bed.

"No exorcist has had a sync rating higher than ninety-six, and that was the last saint, Kuroko's mother."

"The only way someone could have such a high synchronisation score is if he or she was part demon or"- Akashi cut off his train of thought and looked over to where Kagami sat in shock.

"Or had been gifted more power than usual."

I couldn't follow his train of through but Midorima's mouth was set in a silent O as he realised it as well. Momoi jumped over to me and shook me, her face bright with excitement.

"Don't you see? Kagami is the new saint, Kagami is the leader of the exorcists!"

"What? How did that happen?"
